Deborah's Story

Life is exciting and challenging-- and different than anything I ever expected. I returned to school late in life to become a clinical psychologist specializing in neuropsychology. I have a private practice in Pasadena CA. While I work with people with a range of personal difficulties, a large portion of my work focuses on individuals who've had brain injuries or other conditions impacting the brain. I do both assessment and psychotherapy. I occasionally take on consulting work with companies interested in psychological content and relationships. And... one of these days I'll move toward retirement! I have been married to a great guy- Galen- since 1996. He's a wonderfully gifted man who has overcome obstacles most people have never had to consider. Paralyzed from the chest down as a result of a diving accident at 16, he has spent his adult life transported by a wheelchair. Nevertheless, he is an accomplished chief research scientist, an entrepreneur, and a generous mentor. Galen & I participated in a documentary called "Rolling" that you may have seen on public television or at film festi...Expand for more
vals about life in a chair. Both of us are professionals by day, and we have a rock 'n roll band- 'Siggy' that rehearses and occasionally plays around LA by night. Galen is lead singer; I play electric bass (one of those unexpected joys that I picked up for the first time in my late 40s). My two daughters are grown & prospering- each is amazing in her own right. My younger daughter, Jennifer lives and works on the westside of LA. She and her cameraman hubby, Chris have two curly-top kids, a son and a daughter. My firstborn, Tina, is a best-selling author (co-author of The Whole-Brain Child, No-Drama Discipline, YES Brain, and The Power of Showing Up, and author of The Bottom Line for Baby). She and her husband, Scott, have three awesome sons and live nearby in Pasadena. Four grandboys and sweet granddaughter all call me 'Doc' and open my eyes to the wonders of life. Overall, life is a compelling combination of challenges, adventure, exploration, contemplation, and... the completely unpredictable. Life isn't without pain, but undoubtedly most days I feel deeply fulfilled and content.
