Deborah's Story
2016 Update. After high school I moved steadily West until stopped by the Pacific. I studied art but ended up with a business degree from Cal Poly. Still single, still loving it, still like to look - though the pickings are pretty slim. No children, no regrets. My siblings have reproduced sufficiently to ensure our gene pool doesn't die out. And now there are plenty of grand nieces and nephews. More each year it seems.
Okay, okay. I admit it. My "children" have blue eyes, 4 paws and a tail. I am not, however, a crazy cat lady. I'm pretty sure I need to have at least 3 cats before I qualify.
I finally retired from Stanford University September 2022. In my last position, I was a finance manager in the medical school helping faculty manage their grants and contracts.
In my spare time I make jewelry, read, go to museums, spend time with friends, and travel a bit-- but not nearly enough. Stanford has a great continuing studies program and I take a couple of classes each year. One of them- which was on the history of Pompeii - helped me to realize a goal: my second visit to Italy to see Pompeii and Rome. The following year I went to England (which was VERY cold) and saw a bit of the remains of the Roman era (I love ancient history), and a bit of Tudor, as well as a bit Jane Austin's Engl...Expand for more
and. Oh yeah, and Stonehenge, a bit of pagan England. Looking forward to my next adventure which will be soon. This time I am thinking Greece.
2017 update- so my next adventure was Greece. Athens, Dephi, Olympus, Ephesus in Turkey. And some of the islands: Mykonos, Patmos, Santorini, Rhodes and Crete. Not necessarily in that order. My favorites? Seeing Delphi and climbing to the top of the Acropolis in Athens to see the Parthenon. Ephesus was nice too.
9/07/22 Update: Finally retired. Yay!!!! Next adventure - Egypt.
2/14/23 update: Went to Egypt and Jordan Jan 10-26. It was a bucket list trip and I am thankful I was able to go. Amazing!!!! Some of the highlights: Cairo museum - the old one. Somewhat disappointing since many artifacts and mummies have been moved to the new one - which is not open yet. Sakkara to see the step pyramid. Luxor - Karnak temple. Boarded the ship for a trip up the Nile. Temple at Thebes, and the Valley of the Kings. Aswan. There we saw the Philae Temple (temple of the goddess Isis). Also visited the Temple of Hatshepsut. Flew to Abu Simbel. Giza pyramids and the Sphinx. The flew to Jordon to visit Petra, visited Wadi Rum, and had a glimpse of the Dead Sea from the terrace of my hotel.
Haven't picked out my next adventure yet. any ideas?
