Deborah's Story
Well to start off with, I was a tomboy in school. I was the only girl in FFA, but my dad also made me take Home Ec.(yuck). I met my future husband when I was 15 and we were married Dec. 16, 1978, (and NO I wasn't pregent!!) Five years later we had my first son Travis, 2yrs later came Richard. Between 93 & 96 I lost 4 children. But in 1997 came Layne. I'm still married to the love of my life Gene Cox,(guess what his cousin is Eddie Carter!) We lived in China Tx from 1978-1997 where my husband retired from the Sheriff's dept. and became a police officer for the state of texas. We then moved to Sabine Pass and lived there for going on 12yrs.. until Hurricane Ike came and destroyed our House. We lived at Sea Rim State Park. Many of you that visit the pa...Expand for more
rk or Mcfaddin beach past by our house. We took on a 22ft storm surge w/ a 10ft wall of waves. The only way Gene could get to our house was by airboat, and then he found nothing left but the poles. We lost everything. Thiry years of memories, but Thank God that Gene and Richard did not stay behind as planned. We are currently renting a house in Fannett which we planned to buy. I still teach at Sabine Pass ISD where my son Layne (11)attends. I'm also a Nannie with 4 beautiful grandchildren. We stay very busy with baseball, football, basketball, golf and 4-H. I think that's what keeps us feeling young. You know that life is like a Roller Coaster, but with all the blessings I've had out weigh the bad so I'm never going to get off of the Roller coaster!!!!
