Deborah's Story

Life After 25 years in Anchorage, Alaska, my husband, kids and I moved to Bremerton, Washington after my former boss asked if I would like to continue working with her in Washington. It came down to a list of pros and cons on whether to move. After working with the law firm in Anchorage for 24 years, it was, to say the least, a little scary thinking about changing jobs and moving at the same time. No stress there at all! I'm glad we did it though. I now work as a paralegal to a small firm (Anchorage and Bremerton) where I am working on cases/trials all over the U.S. Intense learning is happening due to getting to know the state/city/county/municipality/parrish rules. I don't think my brain will be turning to mush too soon! Learning keeps you young, or so I have been told! I have a daughter who is a senior in college and another one who is a 6th grader. Life is interesting, to say the least. We are enjoying getting to know our families again. We have put 23,000 miles on our vehicle since we moved down in November 2005. Whew, we'd only put 45,000 miles on the car since we got it in 1995. You don't have...Expand for more
too far to travel in Alaska without running into the end of a road. It has been fun leaving on a Friday and going to the Oregon beach, to see family in Eastern Washington (and in fact all over Oregon), or just picking a location on a map you would like to see. (MapQuest and I have become inseparable -- it's my favorite website!) We have had so much fun seeing the sights, running our toes in the Pacific Ocean, and especially seeing the seasons. Alaska has two seasons -- winter for 8 months and 4 months of a spring/summer/fall combo. Don't get me wrong, Alaska is/was wonderful! It is an excellent place to raise a family. They have terrific schools, lots of things for kids/families to do, and safer. But it is good to be "home" or close to it. After being so far away, and not seeing your family, sometimes for years on end, you start to miss them. We're all older now, our differences are long gone, and now it's just nice to see everyone and see how they are. It's quite a comfortable thing now. I hope all of my classmates of 1972 are doing well and prospering. I hope to see some of you soon. Take care!
