Deborah's Story

I am a Mom of two beautiful, adorable, children and my life centers around them mostly. I do like having my own interests though, because I know that they'll be on their own sometime sooner or later and I want to have something for myself. I love poodle dogs especially the smaller ones who need your love and tender care. I enjoy helping others which is why I chose nursing as my profession even though I gave that up to stay at home with my two children. I also took care of other people's children for a short time. I just enjoy their fresh approach to life and the little things in life that make you happy that you're alive and able to enjoy them with the children. I liked educating the new parents because I worked in Newborn Nursery with the babies at both hospitals. Some would say that was just wiping noses and behinds, but I enjoyed taking pride in making sure that the babies were taken care of. I monitored their vital signs and assisted the physician when making their examinations of the babies. There were other duties that were required such as dextrosticks to make sure the babies blood sugar was alright and Vit. K. shots to their thigh. Silver nitrate drops for their eyes to prevent infection. Triple dye to their cords to prevent infection. I went later to Capital Area Vocational Center to obtain my License Practical Nursing license. I worked briefly at Memorial and then I worked the longest at Saint John's Hospital for approximately two years. I met my husband, Bill and we've been married for 25 years- going on 26. I have been home for almost that long except for when I went to Lawrene Adult and studied Information Processing on th...Expand for more
e Lanier word Processor which is on the computer these days. I received recognition for doing a good job as a student by one of my teachers, Diane Mahinda. I did get a lot of encouragement from a lot of really excellent teachers during my years of studying. I still enjoy learning and I always want to learn more. I have always enjoyed singing and dancing too. I even like it when the children and I put on our own play and act out different things. You might say that I'm kind of a ham of sorts. I don't really try to draw attention to myself except when I am doing a part in a play and I play the role that I am suppose to play and that is all. I think I could do that well if I have the time to memorize the script and have good direction. I like getting good advice from friends too. I don't always take their advice, but I do listen and consider whether it is for me. I just like someone to listen when I tell them my problems, but I don't really need them to always try to fix the problem, sometimes they can and sometimes, just, listen while I vent. Believe me, I do vent! That's plenty! My first job was at Physician's Group, where I got paid peanuts to file medical files. What I remember most about it is that at least I was making some money and could do some things like go to the movies or whatever I wanted to do. I also had to have gas money and of course, I lived at home with my parents because this was when I was still in high school. Tracy Robinson also worked there after school. It was a good first job, I would have to say, but I was glad to get a better paying job at Memorial Medical Center as a mail room clerk. I'll tell you more later. .
