Deborah's Story
Life
I have a son named Austin, born in Nov. 2004. He's a crazy, life loving munchkin that loves dirt bikes, horses, dinosaurs, and the bane of my existance; the ever present "SPONGE BOB". Why that sponge is so popular I'll never understand.
I am the Madera County Fire Marshal. A dream come true. I am the youngest Fire Marshal in California, so thats a bit exciting, but daunting also. Never planned on Law Enforcement, crazy when LIFE happens, and plans go out the window.
Before being hired by Madera County I worked for Merced County Fire Department after working for the Mariposa Co. Sheriff Dept. for 2 years. I was the Deputy Fire Marshal for Tuolumne Co. for almost 7 yrs. until my ex and I moved to Mariposa in 2005. I still live in Mariposa County, and LOVE IT!! A quieter and nicer Sonora in many ways. I miss Sonora and seeing friends just driving down Washington Street. There were so many times that it would feel like a parade, constantly waving and honking.
After high school I worked for CDF for 3 years in Tuolumne County. I raised Foundation Quarter Horses and focused on...Expand for more
cutting, team penning and sorting in my off time, there just hasn't been much off time for 3+ years, so I no longer raise horses, just ride for fun now.
Good things are happening right now, life has never been better or more enjoyable. I feel blessed with what I have, what I have done, and happy to have the skills I need to be successful in the future. I realize that money and cars, and expensive things are great, but you have to love who you are with, and who you are, or it doesn't matter, which I can say I finally do, and have.
It amazes me that in High School I had all these big plans and dreams to fulfill..... boy I didn't even come close to 1/2 of that stuff, but I think its even better than I could have planned in most ways. I still did what I wanted, but on a completly different path then what I had originally chose. I did the school thing, the fire thing, the cop thing, and now back to the fire thing again. Never bored!!!! Every day is a new adventure, there is very little monotony, I help people, and feel I am making a real difference. It really does beat a desk job.
