Deborah's Story

School Let's see if I can dredge up some memories of highschool..... Well let's start with classes and teachers: Mrs. Pagano's chemistry class.. I was such a slow learner in this class. I guess it is because I am such a left brainer. I came after school everday the whole semester. Ugh! I could not figure out how to use the slide ruler. Thank-God today for calculators. Than, there was Ms. Woodin's Art class. I always tried to be the teachers pet in this class. Yes, I was such a politician, still am. I made several owl theme pieces knowing that they were Ms. Woodin's favorite. Scary but true. Of course after spending 3 years in Mrs. Moreau's French class. She was probably my favorite teacher. Remember..."J' m'appelle Debbie?" How about, "Qui Fait La Salade?" Or better yet, "Je vous de'range Mrs. Moreau?" That phrase was a for sure question to get Mrs. Moreau's red-dot to appear on her forehead. My favorite thing was I drove a 1969 metalic green with a black vinyl top Mustang with glass packs. It had a great stereo system with an 8 track, of course. You could listen to Elton Johns "Funeral for a friend" and feel like he was singing it live in your car. Way to funny to think about. But it was so cool at the time. Or at least I thought so. Than there was the senior trip to the Canary Islands. Too much sangria at the bull fight equals vomiting in the bidet. I won't say who did this. Hopefully, that person will read this and smile. My roomate, Cheryl Hoefelmeyer, went down with bobby-pins to try to get the vomit down the drain of the bidet. Ugh! Than, there was escaping from the room after the night check from the teachers. A group of us would quietly slither down the hallway to escape so we could go...Expand for more
out drinking to the discos. Of course all of the spanish men were coming after all of us "Wild American Girls" I scared my parents by saying after I got home that I thought I would like to move to the Canary Islands. The other thing that I did that scared them was I left for the trip with my dark brown hair and I returned back home with frosted blonde hair. Oh way too "Tres Chic." Well the rest of the memories will have to wait untill the reunion, see you there. College I went to Oakland University for my first year of college. I transfered to Michigan State the second year and eventually finished at Wayne State University in Detroit. I have a BA in Liberal Arts with a major in Interior Design. I can remember my senior year in Speech class as the video camera was rolling, I was sweating bullets, and extremely nervous, and stammering. I thought I would never be able to comfortably speak in front of people. Interestingly enough today, that is the majority of my job. I constantly stand in front of groups of people and present information. I actually enjoy it today, in fact I even some times feel a bit like an entertainer. It's always great to look out and see that you have captured your audiences' attention. Most of my classes were projects where you had to draft floor plans and prepare presentation boards. My mother use to want to kill me. I worked part-time during college and I was a great procrastinater, so the night before a project was due, I usually had my mother standing by my side cutting mat-boards for my presentation until the wee hours of the morning. She use to want to strangle me for putting it off to the last minute. She became very meticulous at cutting mat-boards. She should have gotten a A+.
