Deborah's Story

Life I seem to be spending my life east of the Mississippi... Went to undergraduate school outside Boston, worked there for a few years and got a Masters in Education (following family footsteps), taught elementary school science in Connecticut for 3 years, then went on to graduate school at Yale and got my Masters and ultimately my Ph.D. in forestry (of all things!). Spent a year in Finland on a post-doc. Taught at SUNY Syracuse and Cornell and then took a permanent position at the University of Kentucky, where I still teach students and the public. No spouse, no kids, but a parade of cats over ...Expand for more
the years - still have 3 Manx. Bought a small farm near Frankfort, the state capitol, and am still figuring out how to manage a farm, grow fruit crops (I still live in Lexington), and work full time - a challenge to say the least. Trying to implement principles of agroforestry and permaculture to have a sustainable farm operation. Spend free time (WHAT free time!) contra dancing, tap dancing and reading voraciously (old habits die hard). Still travel internationally, mostly to South America, specifically Ecuador, but my Spanish is still pretty rudimentary (easier than Finnish to learn, however!).
