Deborah's Story

Hello Fellow Richard Montgomery Grads! :) I hope you are having a good life...I know I am. Occasionally I run into someone here in Frederick who went to Richard Montgomery--which is a treat that I wish happened more often. Since I am not a "Gold" member on this site, I cannot tell who has left me a message so please forgive if you left me a message and I didn't get back to you. In case you would like to contact me through email, my address is debmac5 at yahoo. I'd be happy to hear from you!!! Time seems to fly for me! I have never been board for a minute though--which I feel is a good thing. I worked 15 years for Uncle Sam and quit when I had my first (of 3) children. Since then I've been a stay at home mom and love it! While I was working I began taking courses from Montgomery College and eventually went on to earn my Bachelor of Science degree from Hood College -- by then my kids were 8, 5 and 3. :) I had some excitement on the day I finally graduated from Hood, after what, about 24 years after high school. I was crossing the stage to shake hands with the President of the College. I was hoping that I would not trip or do anything that would embarrass me or my family who were in the audience when all of a sudden the band struck up a tune and everyone in the audience stood up and applauded me--for about a whole minute or two! You could probably imagine my shock--perhaps similar to a deer being caught in the headlights. I was afraid that it was some mistake, yet what could I do. I remember look...Expand for more
ing down at the platform and wishing the boards would part just enough for me to melt down into them and out of the limelight. Finally, the applause quieted down and it was announced that I was the 10,000 undergraduate to earn my degree at Hood College and it was Hood's 100th Birthday. Perhaps you can imagine my relief when I realized that OK, it wasn't a mistake, Yes! I can do this! Hooray! I received a huge gorgeous bouquet of flowers, some cash and had my photo in the newspaper but the greatest part of that experience I came to realize was the applause. It was a wondrous feeling to have so many people cheering for me, even though they nor I knew why at the time. I came away from that day thinking that everyone should be applauded like that sometime in their life. My husband and I recently celebrated our 24th wedding anniversary--next year will be a quarter century! :))) He is a scientist and works for the FDA. My oldest daughter is in her second year of Grad school in TX. Another one is in her second year of College in NJ. I am in the process of placing the order for my youngest daughter's Senior picture. It brings back many memories of my own Senior year in High School. I have noticed, though, that I have to clear a few cobwebs from my memory banks. :) The Good Lord is ever-present in my life. Since age 11, He has been my "rock" and has seen me through the rough times as well guided me through many turning-points. Well, that's enough about me. What's been up with you? Debbie
