Debbie's Story
Life
Twenty-four years later finds me living in Healdsburg, CA with my two daughters (now 7 and 5), divorced for four years and back to work at a local hospital as an RN Case Manager, Infection Control guru and Utilization Review Nurse. It's a crazy-demanding job and I love it....most of the time except when there's a full moon, then my life gets even crazier than normal. Bought a house recently, and have been living at Home Depot (in my free time) hoping all the knowledge and skill will absorb into me through simple exposure. My older daughter wants to be a Hollywood Star and my younger daughter a Rock Star. They've decided a trip to Disneyland is the ultimate Santa gift this year (a dog, cat and bunny too!), and I would love to go sit on a Hawaiian beach for a few days. I've learned alot about life in the past 22 years, am fully awake now and ready to plow ahead through the next 22.
Well, another 2 years have gone by since I last posted here. Not much has changed...I'm still working at the hospital but I exchanged the Infection Control part for leading the Community/Employee Flu Immunization Program in the fall, and I'm now the Case Manager for our new ICU. My learning curve continues to be straight up and for the most part I enjoy it. The girls are now 7 (2nd grade) and 9 (4th grade). They keep me busy and...Expand for more
are a great joy to have in my life. I'm thankful everyday that I can maintain our home and provide a decent life for us. Harvest is early this year because of the long hot summer days and earlier than normal drop in temperature. Soon the hills and fields will be green as my favorite time of year looms near. I love fall with the cool, sharp air smelling of burn piles and apples; and the foilage changing colors every where I look. I still would rather be living on the east coast...where the true beauty of Fall is seen, but I will continue to love what I have now until I can return to my true natural home.
One of the biggest lessons I've learned thus far in life is that what you focus on determines what you miss. Meaning that I was so wrapped up, for many years, trying to save a doomed marriage that I missed what was right in front of me. Me. When we free ourselves of the notion that we are responsible for anyone else's behavior/actions/decisions, and we focus on attending to our own desires then we become the person we are meant to be. And that person is so much healthier, nicer and easier to love than the wretched, miserable soul trying to do the right thing for all the wrong reasons.
LIVE, LAUGH, BREATHE, LOVE AND DANCE as if there is no tomorrow.
Enjoy each day because you never know what tomorrow will bring.
