Deborah's Story

Life I've been married since 1976 to a man 9 1/2 years older than me. I think it is funny when I think about him graduating from college about the time I'm going into the 9th grade in Junior High (Bonham). I met my husband David in Los Angeles on his birthday - Oct 31, 1973. I had was living in Orange County, CA at the time. I move to CA in the spring of '73 to lived with my dad who I just met for the first time on the night of my High School graduation. Weird, huh? At the time I moved to CA my dad was going through a divorce and he was ready to leave the state if I didn't come out there soon at that time. I had one month to finish my first year at Odessa College, but it was a decision somewhat difficult to make. I had a Permian classmate who was to travel with me, but backed out at the last minute. Anyway, my life goal is to "always move forward once a decision has been made". I tried not to look back toward Odessa when I was driving out of town, but I did. I do have fond memories of Odessa and the life I had there, but honestly I don't have any real connections to the town. I do go back to see my mom and my High School drama teacher, Bodine Johnson. She was the teacher who most inspired me. Where I am today I've lived in Tampa, FL since 1989. We've had four children - one from the 70's, two from the 80's and one from the 90's. My oldest daughter is married to a Corporate Executive Pastry Chef at Sales Force in San Francisco, and she is a wonderful graphic designer with her own business. She and her husband have two little boys, Charlie and Holden. My oldest son is living here in FL and helping to run the operations of our family collectibles business, DTA Collectibles. He is married and has a little boy. That makes 3 grandsons for me!! My youngest daughter is employed at Warner Bros in Los Angeles and works as an video editor for the TV show Conan (O'Brien). My youngest son is a talented athlete. He played soccer, fo...Expand for more
otball and baseball since he was 4 years old. In October 2020, he went to auto racing school with the dream of becoming a road course driver. He was one of the best drivers in the school. I guess playing all those video games prepared him well. It's kinda like the days when I was in Drivers Ed and the class took turns in the simulator. In October 2008 I finally was hired at my church as the Preschool - Praise Island Coordinator (children's church). I write curriculum, create crafts and game activities for 4 year olds. Plus I have to keep track of 30 teachers who work with 80 children. All my training as a preschool teacher, worker and volunteer of 20+ years finally paid off. I love my work, even though some lessons may be challenging for me. As long as I have a wonderful and faithful God, I can claim one of my life's verse from Phillipians 4:13, "I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me." I'm still involved in church service, now at a smaller church. I help with checking in volunteers and children for the children's ministry. I will begin an adult women Bible study February 2021. I'm excited about moving into this ministry after over 30 years of being in childrens ministry. Email me. Look forward to hearing from you. I will pray that the new president will help get us back to where (God) wants us to be. We can't do it without Him! I am proud to say, "In God We (I) Trust"! As I am now in my senior (age) years of my life I want to be well prepared for the twilight years as the bright light I shine today for Him in a world of uncertainty, that it will still have even a flicker shining in the darkness. Even a flicker can illuminate in the darkest room (world) to show us the directional path we need to take toward hope in the world. God bless all of my '72 Permian classmates and I hope to see you again sometime - if not on this side of eternity then on the other side when we will all meet our Lord face to face.
