Deborah's Story

After High School I joined the Navy and was stationed at the Naval Air Station Lemoore, California. I was discharged in 1968. In 1969 I got married and my last name is now Goot After Matt and I married we lived in San Diego , CA for approximately 11 years and then transferred to Patuxent Riiver, MD , Matt retired from the Navy in 1980 as a Senior Chief and went to work as a Government Contractor We were then transferred to Portsmouth, Virginia in which we lived for about 9 years. We were offered a chance to go to Sicily where we spent 9 months and then transferred to Rota, Spain. I also worked 17 1/2 years as a government employee in Civil Service. Matt retired again in 2001 and we bought a house with pool in El Puerto de Santa Maria and have been here every since. Spain is a beautiful country with many historic locations to visit. We have spent time in Madrid, Seville, Cordoba, Cadiz etc., all the while traveling by train. I now have ...Expand for more
a Spanish drivers license along with my US license. The Spanish driving test is done in two parts and believe me it is not easy to pass. The first part being theory in which includes knowing parts of the car and life saving techniques etc. The second portion you take only when you have passed the theory. It is a driving course with an instructor who speaks no English. After 5 hours of driving you take your test with an examiner in the back seat and this is done also in Spanish. We have one daughter Sandra and two grandsons Colin and Christopher who live in the Washington DC area with her husband who is also a retired Chief in the Navy and now CEO of a company that contracts equipment to the Military and Civilian Communities. Matt has two sons. 1 of which also retired as a Chief in the Navy, who lives in Poway. California and works in construction in San Diego. The other son Michael lives in upstate New York and works for the telephone company.
