Deborah's Story
School
Guilford was a large school and I feel that many of the people I was close to moved away without graduating. I did have a core set of friends. Some were bullies and so I drifted away and went to work after school. I wish I had joined more after school functions. The school was 7 miles from my home and my parents worked so transportation was difficult.
I feel the teachers were wonderful and the school was safe. Very unlike what it is today. I know this since I am a teacher now. I remember my counsler not having much confidence in me going on to school. Guess I showed him. I have always loved learning and I think Guilford gets the credit for that.
College
I live in Colorado where I have been teaching art for the last 21 years. I live with my husband and one dog. I have two children who are grown and live nearby. I have two ...Expand for more
grandaughters who are cutie pies.
I retired from teaching in May, 2005. I have been painting everyday and taking art classes at PPCC. Many ladies my age are in the art classes so it is creative and very social. I also spend lots of time at the YMCA doing water areobics and camping in the summer. I like being retired.
Workplace
I've been teaching art for about 24 years. My favorite grade is 6,7,8th grade. I have taught all grades in about four different schools. Just a few years ago I finished my Masters Degree in Art and took off a year. My husband and I moved down near the college. We had quite an experience with my thesis which involved meeting some very different people. I enjoy painting and ceramics and pretty much fill my days planning what series I will do next. I have been very lucky with my work places and enjoy what I do.
