Deborah's Story
Life
My life has not been what I expected when we were all in high school.Quit School halfway thru 11th grade (but got my GED in 1975).I was not pregnant when I quit school but I did get that way 6 months after quitting school and had a daughter. Then married Harold L Bragg Jr(after he divorced his first wife) and moved to Ft. Bragg,NC with him and our daughter for a short 8 months and he decided he would re-up for another stint in the Army and he went overseas to Germany when I was 2 months pregnant with our son.I had gall bladder surgery and he came back to see me on a medical emergency after 18 months.We divorced in Jan. 1978 and he married a Germany lady named Dagmar.They have 2 children and live in Tenn now.I had a second son (Wesley) by my boyfriend of 23 years(Damon Darrell Vest).I stayed at home and raised my children.(I had worked on the Governors Summer Youth Program 2 summers in High school and also at the Steakhouse on 2nd Ave.in Hinton and The Diner also on 2nd Ave in Hinton.) have also worked at the High school cafeteria,then Summers County Emergency services ( when it was over the Fire Station) and then at Summers County Senior Citizens cafeteria.Then I decided to go Myrtle Beach,SC in July 1989.Worked down there for approx 3 years at several different jobs.Olde Tyme Photography on Ocean Blvd was the first one;Then Big Lots at Conway about 10 miles up the road;Back to M.B. to work at Grabbabite Cafe at Waccamaw Pottery;Then after surviving Hurricane Hugo(Sept.22,1989) worked at HOW(Handicapped Organized Women),telemarketing,selling tickets to Sponsors for the Handicapped to attend a Circus put on At the old Myrtle Beach Convention Center by the same people I was telemarketing for.Rudy Brother's Circus.Performed as a clown at the circus.Worked a few days at Grandma's kitchen on Kings Hwy. Then worked at Olan Mills Portrait Studio for a few months in the TSA(Telemarketing Sales Associate) Dept.and as a sub Appt. setter.Started working at Caroline's Cafe/Poindexter Motel for Bert Anderson.Fell and got myself a Lumbosacral Sprain and had to quit working because of back trouble.(I had already broken my tailbone in 1985 from a fall.)Came back to Hinton,WV and tried to recooperate.Went back to Myrtle Beach in 1992 and tried to work again at 2nd Ave(N) Pier and Restaurant.Did not succeed because of back and leg probs.Laid around with Sciatic Nerve and bulging disk probs for about 6 months then went to Concord College for Home Health Aide Training for 6 months.Could not do Clinicals so did not get Graduation Cert.But have worked over the years (and made up those hours) as a Private Duty Nursing Assistant.(I now have approximately 15 years of experience Sitting with and taking care of the elderly.Have tried to work at other jobs since.Worked at AT&T as Long Distance Operator Assistant in 1998 in Clifton Forge...Expand for more
,Va for 5 months.Too much pain and Sinus probs from being in Air conditioning because of Computers Being on 24/7.Did so much overtime that I got burned out with the job very quickly also.I still tried to work one more time in 2001 at The Big Wheel Restaurant in Alderson,WV.Found out I have Heart and Asthma probs then so now I just sit with the elderly occasionally.I also have Fibromyalgia which is very painful along with Arthritis and lots of other med conditions.I have 3 grown children and 4 grandsons And a granddaughter born in July 2009 My daughter is also disabled and 2 of her sons are disabled.Her 18 year old has had 3 kidney surgeries and has a hole in his naval to drain his kidneys thru and he also has Hypothyroidism.Her 15 year old son has High-Functioning Autisim.Her 9 year old may have ADD or ADHD.He is pretty hyper. My 4th grandson is 14 and he is ok when he isn't fussing at me and criticizing me because I can't do everything I want to do. Now I live alone Approximately 10 miles out of Hinton,WV on Tug Creek Mountain Road.Renting a trailer from my son,the mechanic.
School
Nobody is going to reveal who they had a crush on.Most of them won't even give out any info of any kind except their name and Highschool attended.I know I don't want anyone to know who I had crushes on.Hey! that might even cause trouble in marriages. I guess Mrs. Woodrum (my 10th grade English teacher) inspired me most.I remember she told us once "The world is a stage and there are the watchers and the doers(actors).Which will you be?"From then on I considered myself just as good as anyone else;rich or poor etc.I guess she gave me self-worth that I never had before. Don't know if I would want to go thru some of the "STUFF" we all went thru back then but wouldn't trade it for anything either as it all made us who we are now. I was crazy about Wayne Judy from age 13 thru 16 but he went his own way and I went mine. Later on in life I figured out he was my Puppy Love.The real thing came with someone else on down the line.WE split up and it took me over 15 years to get over our marriage and to realize I was in love with the memory of what we had.Now I am single and live alone. I do crochet a lot though and am trying to sell stuff on E Bay.But I like my Classmates spot also. I also do gardening in the summer and Home canning.
College
I attended Concord College to get some medical education.Was only there a short 5 months in 1993 for Home Health Aide Training.Had med probs myself and did not get to finish clinicals so no certificate issued.Would have went on for more med training but ended up disabled.My brain keeps getting my body into trouble.It tells me I can work and I try for a while and then my body says "No you cannot work".I also have Clinical Depression but am always trying to do better and stay optimistic.
