Deborah's Story

Greetings, brain builder-uppers! For those who wonder why a Temple City High grad has linked to Marshall High, it's a case of "had we stayed in LA, I would have gone to Marshall." I hoped that I might be able to connect with friends from grade school (Micheltorena) via the Marshall class. So if you remember a cello-scratcher from Michel who was in your class up to 4th grade, I'd be interested in hearing from you. For those from TCHS, Redlands, and CSU San Berdoo.... If anyone wants to know what I'’ve been doing (or even remembers who the heck I am/was), here'’s the synopsis: I went to college in Heidelberg, Germany, and Salzburg, Austria, for my freshman year. Returned home in 1973 and spent 2 years at the U. of Redlands and 1 year at CSU San Bernardino, where I earned my degree in music (a cello-scratching performance major). Spent the next few years wondering WHY I didn’'t switch majors as I worked in various goofy jobs. Married in 1982 to my first and only husband, who, amazingly, has managed to put up with me for over 28 years so far (which qualifies him for sainthood). We spent most of the 80s and half of the 90s tending to ailing and aging parents, all of whom have since passed on. In the ea...Expand for more
rly 80s I settled into working at the Broadway (now Macy’s) in various capacities. By the early 90s I was bored and went back to school to study technical writing and editing, which is how I'’ve been earning my keep for the past 20 years. It’'s a pretty decent gig, and it keeps my brain from falling out. And amazingly, I'm still employed. Along the way I learned to windsurf, did a little traveling, and went bungee jumping occasionally just for the heck of it. (Too bad they took down that tower at the Queen Mary -- —there'’s no place to throw yourself off a 22-story building around here any more. I miss that….) As for music, these days I listen rather than play (other than the stereo and the didgeridoo). But the CD collection is even more eclectic than the LP collection was Back Then. And the bookshelves are, of course, fully packed. Why am I here now? Well, statistically, more of our life is behind us than ahead, and Fogeyhood Encroaches. I just wanted to say hi and thanks to a few old friends before it'’s no longer possible. Anyway, if you'’ve bothered to read all this, you probably have some clue who I am, and chances are I remember you. I hope you'’ll drop in (virtually speaking) and say hi.
