Deborah's Story

Life Hmmmmm....where to begin. I graduated EAHS 1974. Went to Lock Haven University and graduated 1978 with a BA in Psychology. I went to graduate school at Frostburg and received my MS in Counseling Psychology in 1981. I was then overqualified for everything and started working various jobs. I worked as a playground leader, security officer, psychiatric tech at a hospital, packed crayons, sold earthworms, installed carpets, provided individual counseling, worked in a maximum security facility for juvenile offenders, and interned at a state hospital. I acquired my first apartment in 1984 and began my single life. I experienced what people call Love with about 6 people (not all at once!) I had boyfriends and girlfriends but remained pretty much single. Never married (close once!) and no kids.I am now involved with a very special someone and she could very well be the one. Just in time to retire in a few years (yeah, like I can do that with a motgage!) I have been working for the past 19 years as a Supervisor for the county's Mental Health services with a unit devoted to the most severely mentally ill. No two days are ever the same and all I can...Expand for more
say is that I am glad I sit on this side of the desk and hold the keys!!!! We try to help the consumers navigate lovely systems like Social Security and Public Housing. We encourage them taking their meds to stay in the community. Those that can work we try to help get jobs etc. It's called Intensive Case Management. I've had the pleasure of shaking hands with Robert Kennedy Jr, seeing the World's Fair (1964), partying with the Osmond Brothers (minus Donny!), working with Larry Holmes (before he was famous!), meeting Joe Paterno, Carson Kressley, Robert Glasser, seeing Noah Wiley at Warner Brothers, and getting to Disney World before I was dead!! (Yep, met Donald and Goofy! Buzz Lightyear was too busy to be bothered) I played field hockey, softball and basketball through undergraduate school. I continued to play softball until I was 39. The knees aren't so good anymore. I still walk and weightlift at least 3 times a week. I've learned that life is not a just place....it's just a place. And if it makes sense...you can't do it that way. I miss a lot of my classmates that I don't get to see at the reunions. I mourn the ones that have already passed.
