Deborah's Story
Life
My grown daughter and I share a big ol' turn of the (last) century Victorian on Main Street in Small Town America! My husband comes here from the 'big city' on weekends. Currently 1 dog and 2 cats "allow" us to live here and take care of them!
Enjoy antiques, gardening, reading ghost stories & mysteries, and doing geneaology research.
School
Was very shy and quiet in high school. Had a few close friends but was definitely not a joiner!
Favorite teachers were Mrs. Miller (10th gr. English); Mr. Mahr (French I -- I think he was only there the one year); Mr Adams, Psychology; and Mrs. Kuemmerle - Drama, Adv. Drama and Adv. Speech. AND - the US History teacher whose name escapes me at this minute. My class gave her h*ll. Have always thought that any class that did the same with me was just pure karma and I deserved it!!
What really stands out about these teachers is that it was obvious that they cared about the students. Have tried to emulate them in that respect through my 25 years in the classroom.
AND I GOT ALONG REALLY WELL WITH MRS> BEVERIDGE!!! Was in the PA club (good morning faculty and students) for a couple of years.

College
Started out at PGCC (after a semester learning shorthand at Strayer!). Initially was going to get an AA, but discovered *Marketing* and wanted a BS...so.. spent extra year at PG so I could transfer to U of MD as a junior.
Graduated from MD in Dec. 73.
Went back a few years later to get credits I needed to teach *Distributive Education* - now *Marketing* in high school.
Since then have taken classes from a lot of VA Universities -- gotta keep that ol' teaching certificate updated!!
Workplace
Put that marketing degree to work right after MD graduation as the first woman hired by NuTone (built-in-housing products manufacturer). Wasn't a "woman's libber," but it was great fun being the first woman in a national sales force of about 200!
Needed a lifestyle change after 1st husband and I separated. Our daughter was quite young and needed a Mommy. Silly me -- I though teaching high school would be a "saner" profession. HA!
Came to a little town in south central Virginia where I am the *only* marketing teacher in the county! This is my 25th year and I love it.
Was named "Virginia Marketing Teacher of the Year" for 2003 - 2004.
