Debbie's Story

Life I lived in Massillon, Ohio from the age of 5 to 14. I attended Longfellow Jr. High from 7th grade to 9th grade. I started 10th grade at Washington High School, but moved to Melbourne,Florida in October of that year, and then went to Melbourne High School, where I graduated in 1972. I worked at a company called Harris Semiconductor for 3 years after high school. I met my husband when I was 19 years old. He was in the USAF. We married after a very short engagement, and had a daughter the next year. We moved to Italy for 3 years with the Air Force, and had our second daughter while living in Venice. We were stationed at PAFB in Florida after that, and my husband decided to end his military career. He took a job at Kennedy Space Center. We stayed in Melbourne and raised our kids. Our oldest daughter graduated from UF and married her high school sweetheart. They now live in South Carolina with my three grandchildren. The youngest daughter also married a young man that she went to high school with. He is in the military, and they lived in Hawaii for 3 years. She is back in Melbourne again now, while he serves in the National Guard over in Afghanistan. They have no children as of yet, but are hoping to start a family when he returns home. After the girls college and weddings were paid off, my husband and I bought some land beachside, on a barrier island between the Atlantic Ocean and the Indian River, and built our dream home where we have been for the last 2+1/2 years. We were enjoying being empty nesters until November of last year (2004) when we ended up taking in two children who desperately needed a home. They are sister and brother, age 14 an...Expand for more
d 13. So...here we are raising teenagers again!! We feel very blessed though, they are great kids, and we have enjoyed it for the most part so far. I would love to hear from anyone who remembers me from York elementary, or Longfellow Jr. High or anywhere in that time frame. Well, it has been a while since I have been on Classmates! Of course lots has changed. =) My younger daughter was finally blessed with a beautiful baby girl who is 3 years old already! She is quite a charactor, and we have enjoyed watching her personality develope over the last 3 years! My oldest grandchild is now 15-3/4 years old!! That makes me feel so old!! He is getting ready to drive in December! He is a sophomore in high school, and plays basketball. He is 6'3" already!! His brother is in 7th grade, and is an exceptional baseball player!! Then the youngest is 10, and she is our gymnast. She just moved up to level 7!! My husband and I have once again become empty nesters. (For the last two years) This last year has been a tough one for me, I lost my mother in February, she was 88 years old, and I had taken care of her for the last 21 years. It was hard, but I know she is in a much better place, and reunited with my Dad, and 2 brothers. I also lost my "foster daughter", she was only 21 years old. She had become very ill, and couldn't handle it very well, so she took her own life in April. It was so tragic...the effect it had on so many people that loved her dearly... The good news is, my hubby is still employed in this awful economy were in. He hopes to work a few more years before retiring. Life is good, and passes oh so quickly!! Enjoy it as much as you possibly can!! =)
