Debra's Story
Freshman year at Sunset High School was my first introduction to Hayward. My family had moved from South San Francisco to Hayward. I loved the people I met and grew to love them. After graduating in 1969 I attended one semester of college at California Baptist College, Riverside, CA. Came back home to Hayward attended Chabot JR College for the remaining part of that school year. Got married in 1971, The one good thing from that unfortunate relationship was the birth of my son, Jacob Matthew. Divorced in 1976. Worked in banking for years, married in 1978. Divorced in 1992. Music-Vocal Performance from Sonoma State University, Rohnert Park, CA. Received my Master's, Music-Vocal Performance from Chico State University, Chico, CA. Performed as a classical soprano with orchestra and opera companies. I also taught piano and voice in the private and public sector. in 2000 I finally married my high school sweetheart, Steven J. McGourty, he went to Hayward High School. We are retired and live in Fayetteville, AR. We have my son Jake here with us, Steve's son Steven and his lovely family here. I am blessed.
