Debra's Story
The beautiful State of Tennessee is my home now. Since 1997, we have watched leaves change colors, had snow flurries and wonderful fires in our fireplace. Larry and I celebrated our 22 anniversary this year. We got to spend it together, as not the case in the past few years. He works in different states at different prisons and hospitals, with additions, extenions and new complexes. We have made a good effort for it to work him being gone so much. When he is home, we try to spend as much time together as possible.
Our children: Jamie, 32 is an RN at Waterman Hospital in Eustis, Fl., Josh 30 disabled Vet living in Mt Dora, Fl. with his wife and my granddaughter; Joey 28 manager of three apartment complexes in Rutherford County, TN lives in Murfreesboro, TN with wife and one granddadughter and one grandson; Zack is 25 and still trying to find himself in North Carolina; youngest, Matt is 20, at home going to college for a business degree. Already has a business, he is just getting the diploma.
In 2009 I got very ill. Hospitalized for 4 months (ICU 6 weeks). The hospital told my family I wasn't going to make it, but with the prayer and grace of God and moving me to another hospital, I pulled through with side effects. I am on ox...Expand for more
ygen all the time..have tank will travel! Diagnosis, pulmonary fibrosis aggrevated by rhumatoid arthritis. Lung capacity is 40%. Don't move around for long periods of time. But I am alive-I got to see my youngest graduate high school. I still enjoy the leaves changing, and the snow, but can't have my fireplace any longer because of the fire or gas with my oxygen. I have someone that comes in once every two weeks and cleans house for me. Everything I do is in stages, dishes, washing clothes even bathing. But I have it down now. Been this way for two years going into three-and the doctors still don't know how I did it!
In the spring, we enjoy watching our young grandson play tball. I am so lucky to be around to get to see them grow.
Also get to watch our granddaughter here in TN in gymnastics. She is quite good too. We get to see our FL granddaughter when we visit in Florida or when they come here for a visit. I sure enjoy my family, even the aches and pains along the way. Waking up from a coma, not being able to hold a pencil or hairbrush, makes you really appreciate what you have. It took lots of therapy and hard work, so my advice is- enjoy all of your moments, you never know when in a split second they will change............
