Debra's Story

Life After graduation from Granada, I went to Univ. of Idaho where my dad graduated in 1954 and where I had three cousins attending. I avoided dating Agriculture related people because I did not want to marry a farmer. Both sets of grandparents were dairy farmers in Idaho and I saw how hard they worked and how they rarely could take a vacation. My now-husband found out about that so when I asked him what his major was he told me engineering (it was really Ag. Engineering). He later convinced me that row crop farming wasn't as bad as dairy and that he would probably do engineering for at least 10 years. He did engineering for 2 years. We have now lived on or near Blackcat Rd. most of our marriage (32 years). His great-grandfather, grandfather, and father all farmed here. He loves growing and processing his mint crops. The sugar beets and other things are a sideline. I got a degree in math and worked as a programmer/analyst on DEC equipment with COBOL language for about 20 years (some part-time while raising two daughters). Now I mostly quilt and socialize, do his books, travel, plus the usual neccessary tasks of ...Expand for more
eveyday life. I loved high school! I loved TUFOLD. I miss my friends and do my best to keep in touch with everyone. I've visited Gretchen Hendricks in Boston, Nata Lei in Salt Lake, Sharon Skidgel in Washington and have gathered friends together when in Livermore. I keep in touch with others by email, phone and/or Christmas letters. In order to make it to the last reunion I had my older daughter change her first choice for wedding date (7 months ahead). I'm serious! I look forward to seeing you all at the next reunion. Addendum I got married at 20, had Sarah at 25 and Brianne at 30. I came close to divorce at about 27 and 33 and 43; then Drew became a real Christian instead of just a church attender and things have been much smoother. I love to travel and we have been doing plenty of that in the last 8 years. Also, being empty-nesters has helped our marriage because the kids don't take up so much of my time and energy. Now we are new grandparents and that is the best thing of all! Our grandson lives less than a mile away and I babysit one day a week and we get to see him several times a week. It is wonderful!
