Debra's Story

Hey Everyone! Hope my message finds you all well and successful. I live way up north by the Wisconsin border in McHenry Illinois. We live close to Fox Lake and the Chain of Lakes. It's beautiful up here. Anyway, after I graduated I wasn't sure what I wanted to do. I got an excellent job at the hospital in Gary (Methodist) in the purchasing department. I really liked that but it was a little boring after a while. Then I worked downtown for a while for a law firm. The commute was pretty hectic. During all this time I was also on a pit crew for a good friend of mine. I loved to go to Illiana in Schererville. It was a blast. In 1983 I started my favorite job as a dispatcher for the Hammond Indiana Fire and Police Department. It was great. Through the years at the PD/FD, the crime got worse and the calls really picked up. After a year I became a shift supervisor and did that for about 10 years. WOW! I decided I had had enough of the death and destruction in the city. I moved over to the detective division and liked that too. My first husband was cop. Well, big mistake. You can't work for the police and then marry a cop! It's just too hard. I had had enough of the police and fire department altogether at this time. I decided to go back to school and became a Cardiology Technician. I met my recent husband and moved with him to Richton Park Illinois where he was a maintenance engineer. Things went great and we married in 1993 (December). In 1996 we had a baby girl. My husband Greg named her Allissa. We now live in McHenry in an old house with lots...Expand for more
of room. Allissa is 12 now and changing daily it seems. I now work for the Johnsburg School District as an RTI assitant. I am on the Response to Intervention team. That means we take kids that are just not quite understanding a concept and teaching them different to learn that concept before they get to the point where they are totally lost and need constant and individual assistance for the whole year. It's kind of like "keeping the kids in the classroom" rather than making them feel stupid by pulling out of the classroom for support. So, I've been doing that for 2 years now. It's great because I get summers off and all the days off that my daughter has off. She is at the Junior High which is directly across the street from the 3/4 grade elementary school. It's great. We have a dog, Abby, she's a german shepart mix, don't know what she's a mix with though, a cat, Muffin, she's a calico, a fish, Beauty Beta. Also there are many other types of wildlife around here from deer to red fox to lots of birds, squirrels and chipmunks (chippies). My husband and I are into Nascar and baseball (Go SOX!). We have been going to Joliet ever since the Nascar races have been there and camp for a week and have a blast. This year is the first year they put in lights and the race will be a night race. We can't wait. Then at the end of July, we'll head to Indianapolis for that Nascar race. GO TONY! My favorit guy of course. Anyway, my life is great and I wouldn't trade it for anything. Would love to hear about what you have been doing since school. See Ya, Deb -------
