Debra's Story
School
After high school, I got a bachelor of arts in French and Spanish from Western Illinois University and continued to school at various places to secure my elementary teaching certificate. I got my masters degree from National Lewis University in Administration and Supervision. I am still learning.
I taught in School District 21, Wheeling, IL as a Bilingual Teacher and for about 4 years as the Bilingual/Migrant Program Coordinator. I took early retirement from teaching and am in my 16th year of retirement. I am loving every minute of it!
in 1975, I married David Spink. I met him when we were both students at Western Illinois University. We have been married now for 48 years. In that time we have lived in various places in Illinois: Buffalo Grove, Hanover Park, Bartlett and Elgin.

de our time between a condo in Murrieta, CA and our home in Elgin, IL. Our only daughter, Taryn, graduated from Azusa Pacific University in Azusa, CA in 2012 with a BM in Music Performance-French horn and a BA in English-writing. She has completed a Masters in Education:Digital Teaching and Learning at APU along with her CA teaching credentials. In 2015 she secured a job as an Elementary Music Teacher in the El Monte City School District. She is currently in her eighth year teaching and for the past 7 years has been the Rio Hondo Middle School Band Director. She teaches Advanced Band, Intermediate Band, Developing Band, and 6th grade Beginning Band along with one class of Choir and one class of dance. On January 4, 2019 she married Michael Edwards. They live in a home in Duarte, CA. She is our only child and we enjoy being nearby.
