Debra's Story
Life
I have lived other places, but ended right back in Friendship.
I've worked at City Hall in Friendship since 1985.
I'm married to Jimmy Butler. We have one daughter, Brandy. She's married to Dale Clement and they have one child, Taylor Brooke Clement.
Jimmy is a truck driver now. Brandy teaches school in Crockett County. Dale owns and operates a couple of dump trucks.
Taylor Brooke is our wonderful granddaughter. She was born on New Years Eve of 2003. She's blonde just like her parents. Jimmy and I love having her for a granddaughter.
We have four dogs (Todo, C.K. Dexter Haven, Martha Abagail Brewster and Dame Gillian Pywacket) and we've made several friends through the sale of Yorkshire Terrier puppies. Our little business is called Butler's Yorkies.
Jimmy and I married in August of 1978. Daddy died in November of that year. Brandy was born in April of 1980. Mother lived with us for 18 years. She had a stroke in November of 1998. Although she recovered to some degree, she was never able to drive again and she felt this loss of independence. Brandy and Dale married in December of 1998. Mother died in 2002. Taylor Brooke was born December 31, 2003. My brother-in-law, Stanley Strayhorn, died on June 24, 2006, and my brother, Richard, died on June 26, 2006.
My sister, Yvonne Strayhorn, lives in Kingsport, TN. My brother, Jimmy Jones and wife, Ann, live in Rosemark, TN. My sister, Linda Burnett, lives in Knoxville, TN. My brother, Tommy or Tom Jones and wife, June, live between Friendship and Alamo, TN. Richard's wife, Sandra Jones, lives near Bonicord, TN.
I still enjoy living in our little town. Jimmy and I came very close to buying a house near Jackson. I'm glad that we didn't. We thought we needed to be closer to doctors, the hospital and shopping malls. I hope there will be ample time to think about that !!
I enjoy staying in touch with school friends. Sev...Expand for more
eral of them still live in or around Friendship.
I'm still singing and I try to take an active part in local events. I can honestly say that there's not a room in my house that has not been remodeled. We have just finished one project and we're already talking about the next one. And, for the most part, we do our own work.
TV picks: American Idol, Little People Big World, Dancing With the Stars, The Bachelor, Coyote Ugly Competition....and in the beginning of "reality TV", I thought I hated it !!! We also like HGTV, Discovery, Biography. We have a host of channels and sometimes there's absolutely nothing on !!
I still like to do crossword puzzles when I have time. Sudoku is okay.
Don't get to read much these days, but I used to really enjoy it. I tried to read The Davinci Code. I got most of the way through it....but then I just watched the movie.
Jimmy says I can't retire, so my days of sitting and knitting will have to wait. According to the Social Security folks, I need to wait until I'm 72. If I live that long.
I do like to sew, draw, macrame, crochet, and I am trying to teach myself to knit.
Cute quotes from who knows where:
Why does Goofy stand erect while Pluto remains on all fours? They're both dogs !!
If Wiley E. Coyote had enough money to buy all that ACME crap, why didn't he just buy dinner?
If Jimmy cracks corn and no one cares, why is there a stupid song about it?
How is it that we put a man on the moon before we figured out that it would be a good idea to put wheels on luggage?
Why do people pay to go up tall buildings and then put money in binoculars to look at things on the ground?
Do "The Alphabet Song" and "Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star" have the same tune?
Why did you just try singin those two songs?????
God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, courage to change the things I can, and wisdom to know the difference.
