in a very small minority of people for whom their class prophesy became reality. It was predicted that I would teach home economics at SHS and that is where I ended my 36 year teaching career in the home economics department. In 1972, I married my high school sweetheart Jerry Andrew Hammon. After 6 years of marriage, Jerry and I welcomed the birth of our daughter Mary Elizabeth. We called her Betsy from the moment of her birth and my only regret is that we did not just name her Betsy outright. The nickname thing has complicated her life from the time we started getting kindergarten papers for someone named Mary until this day. Sorry, Bets! Retirement has brought about some lifestyle changes for me. No longer do I live on a schedule of bells and teen drama. Although I truly enjoyed my teaching years and my students, I knew it was time for me to find other pursuits.".
