Dee's Story
Summer 2008
My current projects include writing my first novel, tending large xeric gardens in the front and backyard, nursing a small vegetable and herb garden, rock climbing/bouldering at local venues and volunteering for Barack Obama's campaign.
Summer 2007
For over 20 years, I've called Colorado Springs home - I left California in 1983, moved here from Austin, TX in 1987. I live in the foothills with my husband, Steve, and chocolate Lab son, Tandem (we ride a tandem bicycle).
I currently work as a consultant, specializing in marketing communications and event planning (if you need a brochure or web content, let me know). My personal writing odyssey that began in the fourth grade continues. I write a daily blog and poetry which I read at local coffeehouses. I continue to work on several books: mainly collections of personal essays, one on identity formation (my academic interest).
I'm active in local and state politics, supporting progressive and eco-friendly agendas. I am a passionate advocate for literacy programs and preserving the environment. One of my all-time favorite volunteer activities was serving as the Southern Colorado manager for General Wesley Clark's 2004 presidential campaign (have a cherished photo of General Clark and my core team that was taken after he ended his campaign).

fectly (I am a health nut, treehugger and outdoor athlete). During the past year, I've focused my energy on rock climbing and bouldering. Steve and I climb primarily at local venues like Red Rock Canyon (15 minutes away) and Ute Valley Park (5 minutes away). Tandem accompanies us on our adventures, lying quietly in the shade while we climb. For a 50-something athlete, I'm getting quite good (regularly climb 5.10+ routes). Actually, I will climb any route my husband or another climbing partner leads or top ropes.
Still a Californian at heart, I cheer for my beloved UCLA Bruins and Oakland Raiders and get nervous driving on ice and snow. My parents and sisters are doing well. Since I left my corporate career, however, I don't visit Los Angeles very often.
I am not a big fan of reunions, so you probably won't see me at any. Several CHS alumni have briefly reentered my life in recent years. A few years ago, during a visit to Los Angeles, I was delighted to have breakfast with Harlan Perlman - a very special meeting since we've known each other since first grade. I was also pleased to exchange emails with Howard Bubb during my Compaq Computer/start-up company years.
Please contact me directly if you have questions or simply want to hear more. And, if you visit Colorado Springs for whatever reason, drop me a line. I would love to see you.
