Dee's Story
Born and raised in Austin, Texas until my father moved to Ft. worth in 63âÂÂ. After graduation I attended several collages finally majoring in microbiology at North Texas. Uncle Sam called me to duty in 70âÂÂ, shortly after joining the Ft. Worth Fire Department.
During my 30 year career with the Fire Department I let no grass grow under my feet. I served 18 years at a Fire station and the other 12 years in various administrative positions developing or re-instituting special projects.
Along the way I have diversified my interest by never saying no to expand my horizons. I raised and trained Arabian show horses, snow skied, lectured on organics as a Master Gardner, developed a volunteer Fires Department, instituted an all-volunteer County wide Advanced Life Support First Response, served as chair to two Hood County boards.
In 2003 after retiring I reconnected with Karen Hubbard. Her story of how we got together and mine are entirely different. We spent 9 years working at Wal-Mart Corporate her in the Legal Department after having been ...Expand for more
recruited from American Airlines Legal, and I in Benefits Design doing HIPPA Compliance, developing Business Continuity Planning.
We traveled to Europe twice, Alaska, and Hawaii. We helped incorporate our village of Bella Vista, Arkansas, served on our Church leadership Board, and I served for 7 years on the Ambulance Board as it transitioned into a city entity.
We never said no, lived outside of the box, and believed in dreams becoming reality, existing to have fun with out limits.
After a long bout with various illness Karen succumbed to Brain Cancer in early 2014.
At present my project is developing a lake lot in Hawkins, Texas. It is fun re-acclimating to the heat.
Future plans is developing a small organic produce production. A friend and I are gathering information so we can put together a Business Plan.
I did have a daughter along the way, and she gave me my only grandchild. We are close. I feel sorry for her husband as she has adopted my attitude on life.
ÂÂBe flexible, lead, follow or get out of the way we are moving forwardÂÂ
