Deirdre's Story

Came to England for a vacation on April Fool's Day, 1969 and I'm still here. Long vacation. Originally from the Jersey shore, but now live in Metroland - in the countryside but still just an hour's underground ride away from London. Bliss. No-one comes to visit without being dr...Expand for more
agged, kicking and screaming, into what I laughingly call my studio. (ie My son's old bedroom.) My Oxford-educated daughter is also an English teacher - fifth generation to teach in the family. She has one son named Appomattox Ahab. My son is married to a former student of mine and has a boy and a girl - .Sebastian and Rosie. Thought for the day: Grandchildren turn out to be convenient, if unwilling, models. Bribery helps.

Looking through an old trunk, we came upon this random page from the summer diary of Tabby McIntosh, demonstrating her political sensibilities at age seven. LOL. Actually, neither of us can imagine why she drew a disembodie
Guess who has been asked to host a weekly podcast on Teachers Talk Radio - a new arena where the latest educational issues can be explored? Every Tuesday morning, prepare to be enlightened, and amused on the latest issues.
If you're in England, you just missed the twenty-first minute, of the twenty-first hour, of the twenty-first second of the twenty-first day of the twenty-first year! Here's proof. (And again, thanks to Eileen for the heads
My most expensive lens. Paid just over a thousand pounds for it. It's the only lens I took to Notting Hill Carnival and it got me magazine-worthy shots galore there. Selling half price, £500 or near offer. With original box
My only professional Nikon lens. Great for portraits, as the shot of Kim shows. Cost £595. Selling for half price at £300. Original box and paperwork. Lens caps but no hood. Or rather I can't find the hood! I do have it som
My daughter offered to make me lunch today. She makes me lunch most days, the treasure. Anyway, I said fish fingers (fish sticks to the Americans) was fine, with raw tomatoes and onions. This is what she just served me. Bea

Better late than never. Pumpkin pie leftover batter creations.

PS: I deleted the pie photographs as they were rubbish-looking but yummy-tasting.
Love that you can track your Amazon deliveries to see how close Santa is to your house. Our little tree is being delivered today and I've just discovered that it is only five stops away, apparently. Yay!
My babies having breakfast together! Awwww....
A clever cartoon from a 1910 edition of Punch Magazine. Somehow I think women are still trying to push that boulder up that never-ending hill.
Tuna plait. What Tabby and I do while we're trying to kill time. Yummy and it takes our minds off Lockdown and Trump.
Forty-nine years ago my daughter made me the happiest woman alive by exiting my body and screaming her welcome to the world. Since then, she hasn't stopped letting the world know she's there.

Happy Birthday, my darling. I
UPDATE: WE ARE ALL COVID-FREE!

We were all tested for Covid, as one of my daughter's students tested positive. She and Tabby had been in close proximity for more than fifteen minutes discussing her coursework, two days bef
My love of food is long-standing. LOL. Here I am with my brother, setting sail for adventures in the Texas desert from the look of it.

Fort Hood, Texas circa 1951.
My darling daughter is giving a virtual lecture at the prestigious Courtauld Institute on Tuesday. It's free to sign up and listen to the various keynote speakers, of which Tabby McIntosh is one. The topic is the Kingdom of
Been going through some old family photographs and found one of my ex - Ken Mcintosh when he was a wee baby with the best grin ever. I want to know who the pretty little girl is who is cuddling him. I think it might be his
The Decision
Yay! I'm finally registered, largely thanks to my hero Katharine Bartlett who phoned the county clerk's office to chase up my application. Now see if you can guess who I won't be voting for on November third?
A seagull conveniently posed for me on this sign. Nice of him.
