Delli Mathews (Ambrite):

CLASS OF 1961

Delli's Story

I married my high school sweetheart, Wayne Savage, in 1965. He was in business for himself and we lived in Farmington Hills for a number of years, where we had three children. Two daughters and a son. In the early 1970's we relocated to Dallas, Texas so Wayne could expand his business. Unfortunately, a few months later he filed to divorce me and we were divorced soon afterwards. The children, all very early elementary schoolers at the time, and I, decided to remain in Texas and make it our home. I was a single mom for quite a number of years and believe me, in a strange city and with no back up of family or friends, it was quite an education. It was a difficult time in my life and being a single mother was a full time job on top of having a full time job. I found wonderful employment as a dental office manager and was employed there for over thirty years. I retired in 2009 at age 65. I loved my job and the patients and their families grew up right in front of my eyes as I was employed there so long. They were not patients, they became friends and the dentist I worked for was the best. My three children are my pride and joy. My oldest daughter is a primary care physician, educated at Baylor and the University of Texas Med School. She is married to a physician and they have 2 adopted children from Russia. My second daughter, also a Baylor grad, graduated from the South Texas School of Law in Houston and received her law degree, although she does not practice as she has her own business. She is married to an engineer and they have 3 adopted sons . My son is President of Interstate Batteries, Asia and lives with his wife and youngest daughter in Shanghai, China. He has two other daughters, one at Texas A&M and another a teacher, married to a psychologist who live in Tuscaloosa, AL. I had some difficult years but the Lord has always been there f...Expand for more
or me. I am now married to a wonderful man, a native Texan would you believe? We have been married close to 20 years and live in Mesquite, which is a suburb of Dallas. He has a daughter who is like my own to me and she has 3 children. His son passed away last Christmas at the age of 47. It was a sudden heart attack and , needless to say, we are still grieving. I am pretty much a homebody. Our property backs up to a forested area and I feed the critters. Raccoons, squirrels , possums and numerous stray dogs and cats that get dumped there by mean spirited owners. My children and grandchildren say I run an animal refuge. I have had a coyote or two and a very large bobcat show up, but those I avoided. We do a little traveling. but nothing exotic. Day or one nighter trips around Texas. We go with friends and have a good time. We have a little wire haired Doxie we adopted from the animal rescue and two inside rescue cats. We also have three stray cats that call us home when they get hungry or need shelter....Waylon, Willie and Elvis. My life has taken many twists and turn that I never would have expected as, I am sure, many of you would also say, but it is good and I have been blessed. After Wayne divorced me. within two years, my parents decided to move to Texas and for that I can never repay them. They were my rocks as raising 3 children alone is not an easy task. They passed away within weeks of one another in 2006. For those of you who knew Wayne, he passed away in 1995 of a massive heart attack, leaving a wife. Well that's my overview. I noticed I have had some visits from people whose names I recollect and some who I do not. I am not often on the computer but will try to get back to some of you as the days go by. I guess you would call me computer illiterate. Thanks for your interest in me and I will do my best to respond in kind.
