Delma's Story
I Delma made New York my home since August 1959. I have been married since 1961. This year we celebrated our 49th wedding anniversary. After raising our son and sent him off to college at Fisk University,we returned to school. I rec'ed an AAS Degree (Marketing Mgm), and my husband rec'ed his BA Degree. Afterward I wanted to open my own business so I completed cosmetologist school and received a NYS license and opened a beauty salon and also worked as a community organizer from 1967 to 2007.
We are now retirees. We now travel to different islands and we commute back and forth to South Carolina and spend time in our summer and winter home. We attend church while in South Carolina.
I am very active in my church in New York and i am a member of several committees. They are as following: Co-chair of the Black History, Anniversary, and Travel committee. I ...Expand for more
am a member of the Evangelist committee and was nominated to serve on the PPR (Pastor-Parish Relations.) I sing alto in the chancel choir.
This year i was an honoree at this year's 110th anniversary.
Sadly to say on December 30 2010 my husband passed. He was my close loving friend, and a dear husband . I really missed him so much. But i thank God for placing him in my life. Since then i have relocated to the south and i am getting to enjoy my stay here. I have to learn this town all over again because i left when i was a teenager.Many things have changed. Since i been here i have met a lot of returnees. We talk and sometimes meet at the "Y" I planted a veggie garden and i am working on a flower garden. I guess iam enjoying the southern life. I cannot leave out the church and Bible study. I joined these on my first arrival, and everything else followed.
