Dena's Story

Life First a grandmother--then a bride! I married Robert Langdon. Some people think I married the lead character in the Da Vinci Code, but they forget that is fiction. We have had a lot of fun with that. I met my first love at Utica College in 1965. We were married on Sept. 4, 2004, at Grace Episcopal in Utica, NY. In the 60's and early 70's, I was a college professor of English, French, and speech at various locations: Ithaca College, LeMoyne, and Community College of the Finger Lakes in New York and at Findlay and Bluffton in Ohio. After obtaining my J.D. with distinction from Ohio Northern University in 1979, I was Associate Professor of Law there until 1983. Then I practiced labor and employment law on management side, initially with a large law firm, and then in my own firm until my retirement in 1998. My "15 minutes of fame," reduced to about 2 minutes after editing, occurred when I was cast with a speaking part on "Unsolved Mysteries" which was filmed in St. Thomas and aired in August, 2001. Among my real passions are my husband, acting, interior design, shopping, antiquing, reading, and gourmet cooking--in that order. My 2008 obsession was blogging for Obama. Now that he has been elected, I am happy that for the first time in 8 years, knowing someone who is smart and has great judgment in the White House. I write op-ed pieces for the VI Daily News and continue to promote Pres. Obama's agenda such as universal health care, tighter controls on banks and the pharmaceutical industry, renewable energy, and a cleaner environment. I live my dream vacation every day in St. Thomas, my primary residence. I have two wonderful, grown children. My daughter, Bonnie, is obtaining her Ph.D. in counseling psychology in Kalamazoo, MI. She is interning at Ohio State 2009-2010. My son, David Elliott, was married on June 22, 2002 and resides in Columbus, OH, where he has a position with NetJets. He and his wif...Expand for more
e, Laura, present me with my first grandchild, Lillian, on August 1, 2004, and my second, Elliott Wesley, on April 28, 2006. Dave obtained his Ph.D. in operations engineering from U of Michigan in December, 2001. I have a truly wonderful life for which I am grateful every day. School I attended high schools in three states: VA, PA, NY. I keep in touch with friends from PA through Classmates and with friends from Whitesboro, NY, where I graduated. I enjoyed being in the Senior Play, "Letters to Lucerne," as Bingo Hill, being chairperson of makeup for the first high school musical, "The Boy Friend," being president of French Club and especially our trip to NYC, FTA and being a substitute teacher in PA one time when all the teachers were out for a funeral of another teacher, Colgate Seminar, and honors English. College I accelerated at Utica College to graduate in 3 years with a major in English Literature and almost another major in French. I LOVED college. If I had it to do over, I would have lived in the dorm instead of at home. My fondest memory of college is falling in love with the man with whom I am now reunited after 35 years. We spend part of the year near Utica College and enjoy the activities there. I highly recommend this small college in beautiful Upstate New York. Real professors, not graduate students, teach everyone. Individual attention is a reality. When I returned for my first alumni weekend, the president called my name from across the room--college was truly home. Workplace College teaching: English at Ithaca College, LeMoyne College, both in New York; English and French at Finger Lakes Community College, Canandaigua, New York; French at Bluffton College, Bluffton, Ohio, English at Findlay College, Findlay, Ohio Law Professor at Ohio Northern University Labor and Employment lawyer at Smith & Schnacke, Dayton, OH Labor and Employment lawyer in my own firm in Lima and Findlay, Ohio
