Dena's Story
I think the one thing that would surprise people the most about seeing me again is that I am much more outgoing than I used to manifest in highschool. Though I always cared about people, I was and am very introspective. I was very shy, due to some difficult life experiences. With a lot of help from the Lord, I have overcome that, and am able to reach out to people now. The other, more obvious thing, is that I no longer am extremely thin;-)
The teacher I would most like to see again is Mrs. Raese. She was a very couragous woman, who had a great many setbacks in life to overcome. Her husband had had a stroke, and her youngest son had Downs Syndrome. Perhaps many of you remember the person wandering around town with a bazooka on his shoulder--"Normal Norman", people called him. I would have been embarassed about that. But now, I also think how great our town was that it was safe for a disabled person such as Norman to be able to wander around and still be safe. You know, when I first saw Mrs. Raese, I took an immediate dislike to her, because she was not as attractive as some other teachers, and her manner of speech left something to be desired, too, but when I got to k...Expand for more
now her, I discovered she had a heart of gold.
I don't remember doing anything wild in school. I was too aware of my own mortality, and of my responsibilities at home.
My first crush was a quiet and kind boy, PaulSheridan from Grafton Road Elementary. I saw him in the bleachers at one of the functions in town when we were about forty. He was married with children. We talked for a while, then his wife got him to move to different seats :-)
If I could goback and change my choices in life, the one thing I would do differently would be to go to college after high school. I do my best to encourage every young person I meet to go to college. Even though the coursework seems to me to be mostly a repeat of highschool--the required courses, that is--still, it helps a person to become well-rounded, and is the required start to a good job. And, I'm sure it would be a lot easier without having to juggle a job, children and a mate along with the schooling. Still, I did enjoy the simple life I had while raising my first two children, with my huge garden, raising my own food, canning, I even made soap! Had bees!
Here's wishing everyone all the best! Drop me a line if you like.
