Deneen's Story

Life 11/12/2012 A lot has happened in the last few years since I updated this last. I am now divorced. My oldest son and wife have two beautiful children. My middle son and daughter have graduated from high school. I live in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. Who would have thought that??!! Not me.. You cannot even get a tourist visa to visit this place. It's very interesting and restrictive. 3/28/2009 Wow, we love Japan. It is absolutely gorgeous over here. The Cherry Blossoms are about to bloom. A few of the trees have started already! We live off the base so all my neighbors are Japanese. They are the most polite people. 8/22/2008 My oldest son got Married last December so he is working on his first anniversary. They are very happy and so am I. More exciting news. In March I went to Rome, Italy. WOW.. That was so cool.. I loved it. I think I seen just about everything you could see there. The first of April I went to Prague, Cezch Republic. That is one fascinating place. The beer there is the best in the world in my opinion. I spent six weeks in Canberra, Australia. OMG!! That is an awesome place. I was there for half of June and all of July. That was their winter time. I can't even begin to describe it. I loved it. I'll be moving to Japan the end of Ocotber. I'll be over there a couple of years or longer. Who knows. I'm looking forward to this. Mikaela is coming out with me and will get to start high school there. She's excited about it. Zane will be going into the Navy, but I'm hoping he will come out to visit. 1/4/2008 Well, I have been herein VA for a little over 3 months now. I love the new job. I work for the government and am so glad I got it. I'm enjoying being back in VA again also. It's taken some getting used to driving again, since I didn't have to in Chicago, but I haven't caused any accidents, so that's a good thing. 9/14/2007 More changes. I will be moving back out to Virginia this weekend 9/16/07. I have accepted a job out there. I begin work the 24th of September. About three months ago I was diagnosed with Type II Diabetes. Right now I am regulating it with diet and pills. I'm hoping to reverse it since it is in the beginning stages. There is that possiblility, so I'm trying. I have graduated from the Cooking and Hospitality Institute of Chicago with an AA in Culinary Arts. I am working at the Courtyard Chicago Downtown as an Event Housing Coordinator. I am still in the Navy Reserves. My oldest son Vance (19) has joined the Navy and has since graduated bootcamp. He is now...Expand for more
is South Carolina at EM school. I'm so proud of him. Zane (17) is driving and in the 11th grade. He goes to the Tech Acadamy in the mornings then on to High School at noon. I'm very proud of him also. Mikaela (13) is in the 7th grade and is in her 4th year of violin, on the school paper and they all are doing great. I couldn't have asked for better children. We went to the 231st Navy Birthday Ball on Oct. 21st. I will upload pictures as soon as they are developed. That was a lot of fun. WOW that was a lot of changes. I wish I could have made it to the 20th reunion, but money was tight. I'm saving to come to the 25th if we have one. 12/13/06 My Son left for bootcamp on the 21st of November. I haven't heard from him yet, but his girlfriend tells me he is ok. Isn't that sweet?? I got back from doing my two weeks for the Navy Reserves in Hawaii on the 9th. I worked my butt off, but what better place to do that at then there. The weather was pretty good. The best part about it was being able to meet the Pearl Harbor survivors that where there for the 65th Anniversay of Dec 7th 1941. I got the chance to listen to some pretty good stories. They say this will probably be their last as they are getting too old for the trip. If I remember correctly the oldest one there was 93. There are about 1500 US surviors left and 400 of them where there. There are only 3 Japanese survivors, but I didn't get to see them. I even climbed Diamond Head. It was only .7 of a mile but it was 590 feet up. Was that a hike and a half. Thought I was going to die half way up. 276 steps, thought my legs were going to fall off half way up them, but the view from the top is unbeatable. Well, that is just a little of what has been going on here. Take care everyone. Hope to hear from you all. College I have graduated from The Cooking and Hospitality Institue of Chicago with an Associate of Applied Science in Culinary Arts. Military Joined the Navy October 1986, got out in September 1987 before the birth of my first son. Started the process of going into the reserves in August of 01, 9/11 happened and that was put on hold. My Father swore me into the reserves on October 10, 2001. December 19, 2001 I was recalled to active duty. I spent 22 months in Washington DC, at the Naval District Washington Navy Yard, doing military police work. I was demobilized in September of 2003 and went back to my reserve obligation in Decatur, IL. I still drive down there and drill on my drill weekends. My enlistment is up this October.
