Denise's Story
After high school, I pursued a degree in equine management, then slipped off to the racetrack to train thoroughbreds. My real interest though was in raising horses rather than training, so I moved to Kentucky and began a long career in the thoroughbred industry. My husband and I managed a series of larger and larger farms with clients from all over the US and Canada. We also bought and sold horses for ourselves and clients and even bought a horse that we ended up running in the triple crown series that ended up third in all three races! A dream come true!
My best dream come true is my daughter, who works in philanthropy at the University of Kentucky. With a wonderful husband and two beautiful children, she has given me more than I could have hoped for!

rchitecture (no, I don't do residential gardens) and worked for an architectural firm doing school and university site design and master planning. After a stint in nonprofit conservation work, I opened a new landscape architecture and planning firm focused on sustainable design and community resiliency.
A singer and musician in high school, I carried that on through college but eventually gave up both (not enough time to play - too lazy?) and lost my voice quality due to a serious infection. The time I spent involved in music at East Islip though, is time that I look back on fondly and that changed my life in many positive ways.
I am involved in community action groups like Rails to Trails, Sustainable Cities, Green and Healthy Schools, etc., and lately in political advocacy. Keeps me busy and enthusiastic.
