Denise's Story

How do you put 35 yrs. in a nutshell? After my Daddy died (beginning of 7th grade), my Mom quit teaching, remarried, and we moved to Dallas the summer before my Senior Yr. I graduated from Bryan Adams HS in Dallas. Talk about culture shock! From little ol' Mineral Wells to the largest school in the Dallas Public School System! It was interesting, at least, and thanks to my new step-brother, turned out OK. Due to the racial tension and the bussing issue, we had the SWAT Team on the school grounds the entire year! But my new step-brother, Scott, wathced out for me. It was hard not graduating with all the people I had grown up with - since Kindergarten, but I knew my Mom needed me (my Daddy's death was so hard on her, as all of us), so it was all good. I married and lived in Dallas until 1980 at which time I moved to Colorado where I still live. I have a son (Kevin Michael), born in 1984. He is married (wife, Staci), living in Colorado Springs, and just had his first son (Quinn Michael) in June, 2009, my first grandson! I love Colorado! I currently live on a small 250 acre ranch East of Colorado Springs with my second husband. We have been together for 17 yrs. I have 10 step-grandchildren and 3 step-daughters. I'm very fortunate - they are all very good to me. I have lots of animals (still)-horses, dogs, cats, fish, birds (some things never change). I had a cow/calf operation (small herd of about 40 cows) for about 10 years. I AI'd my own cows, finished out my steers and sold the meat (all natural), and sold my heifers at the replacement heifer auction each year. I loved ...Expand for more
raising cattle! Did good at it. Miss it. My husband and I run his family's sheet metal business of 32 years. My husband is a cancer survivor. I love to laugh more than anything, sing, music, movies, photography (so much fun), playing games, camping/campfires, hunting, and spending time with my family, and of course, horses (still, always). Having grown up living at PK Lake in the summers in Texas, I miss the water. There aren't really any good lakes in Colorado; not like in Texas. I recently attended the Parelli Center (Natural Horsemanship) in Pagosa Spgs., CO, for 8 weeks. Wow! That was awesome! I have read that Chris Cox (a natural horseman advocate also, often on RFD TV) lives in Mineral Wells! We are on the map! (I'm sure that Ft. Walters put us on the map first, though.) I always liked Mineral Wells-thought the land was pretty, Stephenville/Ty Murray (my husband has met him as well as the Et Bauers and Larry Mahan)-a lot of good people from Texas. Only moved because of my Mom. The rest of my family - brother, sisters, and nephew and family landed in and around the Dallas area. I am, and always have been, the black sheep of my family. What can I say? I think of Mineral Wells and the people I knew there often. Wonder what people are doing, how they are, where they are... Guess what? Tom Black (who lived 2 doors down from me on 11th St.) lives in Colorado, too! Only about 50 miles from me. Go figure. We've been that close for nearly 30 years and didn't even know it until last year!!!!!!!!!! Well, that's about it. I wish you all well. Denise Fouche' Norton
