Denise's Story
Classmates,
As many of you know, I went to CU Boulder on a cross-country and track scholarship. Since I was away so much for travel, running twelve consecutive seasons, I took light course loads and ended up on the five year plan! As far as my running career, our cross country team was 6th in the nation my senior year and I finished 5th in the Big Eight 1500 meters indoor my senior year. I graduated in May 1988 with a Degree in Sociology with an emphasis in Criminal Justice. I utilized my degree for one year and my first job was as a Juvenile Counselor at a Half-way house for males. Of course, it was challenging and a growing experience. I grew right out of the position after one year and began working at State Farm in 1989. I ran my own State Farm Agency from 1998 until 2005 when I ent...Expand for more
ered Agency leadership. Seven years later, I headed back to run my own agency again. Business ownership allowed me the flexibility to attend many of my daughter, Cheyenne, events as a Student Athlete at Valor Christian High School. She then attended my alma mater, University of Colorado where she discovered hiking, climbing and slacklining while in college. Now you can add highlining to her sport of choice. She's graduated and living in Salt Lake City and is a business owner herself. She founded Alpenglow Coffee, is a sports model and freelances Graphic Design. As for me and running, well, my knees are so bad that the orthopedic surgeon told me to take up a new sport. I occasionally shuffle for 2-3 miles but mostly walk, swim, and lift weights. I enjoy travel, snorkeling and scuba diving.
