Denise's Story
In high school I was the country girl interested in all things "outdoors". I even drug Cathy Csaky into my adventures of canoeing and camping with a co-ed Scouting group called Canoe Trails. Our trips included canoeing in the wilds of Quebec and hiking parts of the Appalachian Trail. My positive memories of Villa include Sophomore class president, student council and working on the yearbook and the not so positive are endless boring masses.
After high school I went to Penn State where I met my husband, Bill. We were married at the end of my Sophomore year of college (he graduated) and I finished my Junior and Senior years at Mercyhurst College in Erie. Before settling down to have children, I worked for various private and government agencies in the area of environmental education. We purchased land in the country and designed and built our passive solar house. We became entenpenuers and built a rental housing business. Then I began homeschooling our sons and buidling an equestrian b...Expand for more
usiness on our property. We currently have 17 horses here. Our sons are now grown men and on their own. Our farm hosts a Christian nonprofit organization, Mystic Mountain Training Center, which focuses on outdoor education and teen leadership development. I serve as executive director. My husband runs our rental businsess and helps with the Training Center in ways too numersous to mention.
In 1982 I was nearly killed in a car accident. God used this to get my attention and about a year later I accepted Jesus as my Lord and savior. Since that time my passion has been to introduce others to the Jesus I know. Over the years I have been involved with just about every aspect of Christian church lay leadership. Currently we have 25 teens who volunteer with us in our leadership program at Mystic Mountain. It is our passion to mentor them to become strong Chrisitan leaders for their generation. Our summer camp program is all about introducing the campers to a God who passionately loves them.
