Denise's Story
Life
3 kids ... okay, so they're not kids anymore. Alan, 26; Kevin, 24; Jennifer, 21 and is now a Junior at U of H, majoring in Kinesiology. She wants to coach middle school girls' sports and teach PE!
Alan is 26 and is a tattoo artist. You tell him what you want & he draws it, then tattoos it on you! He's amazing! He is also the proud father of 6-month-old Gage Kole Krause, my 1st grandchild! :)
Kevin is still trying to find himself. I really hope that happens soon!
I have a wonderful man in my life and we have three doggies, Mocha (chocolate lab), age 5; Riley, (RR/Besingy mix), almost 5; and Shelby a jet blue/black lab/pit mix. They're amazing and wonderful and so much easier than kids! Whew!
School
BA, Communication Disorders & Sciences, U of H, 2006
Master of Human Relations, OU, Norman, OK
Cal State-Northridge - MS in Speech-Language Pathology: starting what will probably be my final degree in April!
College
I'm a late bloomer, I guess. I waited until I raised my kids to get my own education. I attended HCC, then U of H. I graduated from U of H in 2006 with a BA in Communication Disorders, received my Master of Human Relation from OU in 2009. I enter Cal State Northridge in April to obtain my MS in Speech-Language Pathology.
Workplace
I worked for a telecommunications company in Houston for 10 years and in the end, made it until the 5th round of lay-offs. That's when I entered college full-time (Jan 2003). Then worked for the same boss at another company for 2 years, part-time, working within the field of Occupational Medical Sales/Training. I am now a Speech-Language Therapist in Maricopa, AZ and also a licensed Special Education Teacher for Mild to Moderate Disabilities.
I always wanted to be a special education teacher when I grew up. My family and friends thought that was a noble idea. As it turns out, they were right and here I am!.
I play online scrabble - it's an addiction. I also enjoy loooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooong walks with my canine girls.
If I'm going to work somewhere, I need to have coffee, music, and peace of mind to be able to deal with the day-to-day.
Scrabble, Days of our Lives, Grey's Anatomy, Private Practice, House, Mercy, Cougar and my doggies. These are my obsessions. :)
My biggest surprise in life is living in P...Expand for more
hoenix, Arizona, 1400 miles away from my home and my children. What's even more surprising is how very much I love it here and the fact that I definitely consider it home.
From my children, I have learned tolerance, unconditional love, the beauty in the sight of their faces and the sound of their voices, pride in their accomplishments.
The one teacher I love to see is Mrs. Virginia Derry. She and I remain close and I speak with her often. When I can catch up with her in Houston, I do that, too!
If I won $100 million, I'd give $2mil of it to my synagogue to pay off the mortage, then spend the rest on student loans, the house of my dreams and my childrens' future.
My current age is 50. When I was 12, I thought that people my age now would be just like my mom who was 41 at my birth. I was so completely wrong - she was much more agile than I am!.
My first crush was Stuart Lear. He was from Vermont and I have no clue where he ended up. My first real love was Christopher Ray Herring. He remains a kind and gentl man with a beautiful wife and gorgeous kids. My life would never have been the same without Chris in it! He is an amazingly wonderful human being.
My best friend would tell you I'm loyal to a fault, but people who don't know me very well would probably describe me as loud and boisterous. Some things never change!.
Style? Me? No way. I crawl around on the floor with children who have disabilities. WalMart works best for that!
I share my home with Kenny, our dogs, and sometimes his youngest girls, which I find remarkably fabulous.
If I had one do-over in my life, I would have spent much more time with my father the year prior to his death. That's something I can't ever get back and he was my hero.
In 10 years, I will still a speech-language pathologist (SLP-CCC). Actually, that'll be finished in 3 years now that I'm starting the masters program.
My oldest friend, Mary Fields, was always in my homeroom, but I actually met her in 7th grade in P.E. I had on a dress with a zipper that went from the neckline to my thighs. She pulled it down and I thought I was going to die! LOL
My first job was at La Hacienda, where I got paid $5.00/hour to hostess. What I remember most about it is the guys in the kitchen whistling at me and my ignorance regarding counting back change.
