Denise's Story
Hi! I'm from the Class of '74. Some of you may remember me, some not. I didn't hang out with just one group of friends. I was involved in Buffalo Gals, the Drama Team, and had my church buddies. My older brother, Jim Parvin, was one year ahead of me and my younger brother, Bert Oakley, was two years behind. Strangly enough, I LOVED high school. I was shy at first, but open and silly once I got to know someone.
After high school, I married a man 7 years older than me, we moved to Portland, OR. That lasted 3-1/2 years & I moved back to CA. Emotionally, I went through some hard times & got into the party scene. I married my son's father in the 80's & that lasted for 10 years. After that, I started getting my life together, focused on my son, and my emotional & spiritual health.
I'm now married to a great cowboy (10 yrs. in 2009) who's the best. He's madly in love with me. I met him at church, w...Expand for more
here we have been actively involved. I have a 19-year-old son and a 20-year-old step-daughter who I consider my daughter. I've been a part of our church's worship group for over 10 years. Singing has always been my passion ~ even in high school when I sang with our church's youth choir. We're blessed to live on acreage in the Sierra Foothills and have 2 horses, 2 dogs, & 4 cats. I'm happy and content almost always. I love to laugh & try not to take life too seriously...just go with the flow.
I work out as much as possible. I've done so much stretching that I grew an inch in the past few years!! I thought I was supposed to start shrinking as I aged, so that's good. I was diagnosed with Fibromyalgia in 2004, so I have to plan my days & not overdo it. Too much activity or driving for long distances puts me in a funk for 2-3 days. I enjoy movies, playing games, spending time with friends & family.
