Denise's Story

Life Well when I left St.Andrews in 1971,I hitchiked to california, got to Hollywood, told fortunes for a living, anyone who remembers I read the Tarot cards,I used to read them for people in gym class.lol Yeah I was a hppie, and war protester(Viet Nam)I used to wear all black, especially on school colors day.people would ask why, I said I was going to a funeral, they would ask who I said my own.I was so weird, lol, still am. Well, I came back home after a year in California,I worked in a record shop downtown on and off for years,I loved music and still do,its in my blood,my dad was a jazz drummer and my mom an artist, didnt know it back then but I was adopted,by my grandmother,I also found out later I was 1/4 iriah and 3/4 American Indian.Cherokee and Choctaw. My mom was Cherokee and Irish her mom came over from Ireland, and married a Cherokee off the reservation, my dad was full Chocktaw,no wonder he loved drumming. I became involved with my roots and native American spirituality, and One pow wow(3 day party, where there is dancing food and crafts) I got my Indian name, Wolf Eyes.I have used it ever since then.Later I got my spirit name,StarDancer,I can understand my personality so much better now.lol I was so different in High School, never felt I fit in,felt like an alien.I wasnt well liked, people dont realize at that time the cruelties they did to others lasts a lifetime. I kind of wandered, on my journey for awhile, became involved in social issues, I started a program down town after fighting the mayor and the cops, and winning, in Marion square, feeding and clothing the homeless,it was called Through the Cracks..for those people who fall through societies cracks, and there are many,I worked a suicide hotline in Chicago for a year, meanwhile went to Ministerial school to become a minister,I wanted to work with street people, not cramming religion down their throats, but to really help them get on track with their journey through life, helping with the basics ...Expand for more
too, we all need.Food, clothing, a place to live, and love and a feeling of worth. These are so important. I later worked with Aids patients, and then with hospice,I believe no one should die alone, that one should go into the nexrt world knowing they are loved and their life meant something to someone. I live by my motto, "See with the eyes of your spirit, and Hear with the ears of your heart " this means look for things hidden beneath the surface, and listen to people with your heart, reallly listen not just hear all the surface stuff. Then in 1983 I met a guy,he was full Creek Indian,in the record store where I worked,I was 32 at the time, never married, didnt want any part of that, lol, but I fell hard,His name was Dennis, and we married,he was 21...robbed the cradle I did.lol The 3 years later we had a child, a baby girl, Sarah Nicole, her nam means Victorious warrior Princess, and she was, I almost died in childbirth so did she.it was touch and go, but we both made it through. She is beautiful, have to take my baseball bat to beat the guys away from her, lol. She did some modeling on and off. Well we lived life, weathered some storms, and had so many joys and times of laughter, that kind of brings me up to now. Last July 12 I had one of my legs amputated. Then this july 12 I had my other leg amputated.Had so much trouble with my legs, but now no more pain. I get around fine, and have retained my sense of humor.I will be getting my prothesis's soon, and they will be l;eopardskin, if you have a tradgedy why not have fun with it.I will look like I am turning into a leopard, the way I look at it, that is an inspiration to me,run fast and free, like a wild animal.I am also gettting an electric wheelchair, candy apple red, with silver flames on a each side and a wolf tail hanging from the back.given to me by a medicine man. So if you see me coming your way, stop and say hi,and I will give you a big bear hug.that is my life since high school in a nutshell.Be safe,Namaste'
