Dennis's Story
Life
After Custer, I attended the University of Wisconsin - Milwaukee. I graduated in 1974 with a degree in Political Science and an ROTC Commission as a 2nd Lieutenant in the Field Artillery. Although my initial goal with ROTC was to avoid the draft, I discovered I enjoyed military life and made a career out of it. During my 20 years of service I managed to find a wife and we had two wonderful children - more about that later. While in the service I was stationed in Oklahoma (marriage), California (son was born), Arizona and North Carolina (divorce). I was also stationed overseas in Germany (daughter was born), Korea, and served short stints in Panama (Just Cause) and the middle east (Desert Storm). While in North Carolina I transfered from the Artillery to Military Intelligence and attended Jump School. I also enter the Special Operations Community where I still reside today...Expand for more
. I retired from active duty as a Lieutenant Colonel in 1996 and entered the civil service as an intelligence officer - still working in special operations. I recently returned from my third deployment to Afghanistan. Although Special Operations is exciting, it did take a toll on my personal life and cost me a marriage. But - things have a way of working out, I got the kids, the house and the dogs in the deal....pretty good outcome if you have to get a divorce. My son, James, graduated from the University of North Carolina at Wilmington with a degree in Computer Science and is now employed by Titan Corporation as a developer. My daughter, Sara, is a senior at the University of North Carolina at Pembroke and is majoring in Criminal Justice - hopefully she will graduate in May of 2005. I still travel quite a bit, but when I'm home I enjoy woodworking, hunting and riding my Harley.
