Dennis's Story
Life
After BS & MS degrees at SIU-Carbondale, I went into the US Army for training and joined an Army Reserve Unit in Chicago. Worked in Marketing Research for Swift & Co. and Sara Lee (Frozen Baked Goods) and then was recruited by General Mills Co. in Minneapolis. Met my spouse of over 30 years (Vicki--Grew up in Canada) and we have four grown children (youngest is now in her third year at the University of Northern Iowa--music and education (Math teacher) at UNI). I worked for General Mills Co. for 19 years before doing Consumer Packaged Goods consulting in my own business. Started coaching youth traveling soccer over 15 years ago--currently coaching high school soccer (Girls JV at Thomas Jefferson High School in Bloomington, MN--in the very competitive Lake Conference). I'm helping contribute to young athletes realizing the value of working hard and achieving excellence thru hard work. Also contributing to their becoming good, contributing and achieving citizens. nse Program in 1996. Congratulations. (Where did soccer come from in Granite City? When we were in high school, the strength was wrestling.) I run about 4-miles a day (20-24 miles per week), am in good health, weigh only about 10-pounds more than when I finished US Army training--have done competitive whitewater slalom and downriver kayaking and tournament racquetball in past lives. College
SIU-Carbondale. Lived at Thompson Point Brown Hall for the first two years. Member and past president of Phi Sigma Kappa Fraternity. Got really serious about studying AND grades beginning of third year. Graduated with BS in August, 1962 with a major in Marketing/minor in Economics. Stayed on for an MS in the Marketing Department. Finished in August, 1963. Entered the US Army Reserve in September, 1963 and Training on Active Duty thru June, 1964. Then moved to Chicago to work in Marketing Research for Swift & Company (on Butterball Turkey Products)and then to Kitchens of Sara Lee (Frozen Baked Goods)-- finally to General Mills in Minneapolis. All jobs in Marketing Research and New Product/New Business Development.
