Dennis's Story
Life
My Wife:
We met at the apartment complex I lived in. I had moved to a dynamic apartment community that was primarily medical students. A Tullahoma High friend of mine moved in to share expenses. After running through several Tullahoma roommates over the years I ended up alone after about 8 years. My bride to be, moved in across the breezeway with a roommate who was a childhood friend of hers. I went out with her roommate a few times first, but realized she wasn't the one for me. I found my future bride to be the cream of the crop and the girl I had been waiting for.
My pets:
We have had dogs and cats prior to setting up our household, but over the last 5 years, we found out our son and I are both allergic to them. Since the pets have passed on we have not replaced them. But, we do miss them dearly and hope to have more again some day. Pets add such richness to our lives and teach us about unconditional love.
My Kids:
They are GREAT kids. Hard to imagine life without them! What was life before them, but a trivial existence! What a gift we have been given from GOD to raise them, teach them, set examples for them, and then let them spread their wings and fly. We are very close and I hope our relationship remains that way as they grow older.
My Job:
Time demanding, creative, sometimes very stressful, but very rewarding. To affect the built environment that people use every day is a magnificent feeling, especially when they sing praises and it becomes a timeless work of art and architecture that many generations will enjoy long after our passing.
Life's Lessons:
We lost my Wife's Mother to Cancer August 5, 2007, so that chord finally struck close to home. She is sorely missed and was such a large part of our children's lives. At only 70 1/2, she was not...Expand for more
ready to go and so wanted to see her grandchildren grow up. I still cannot believe she has passed on.
Then, we lost my Dad August 10, 2008, so I know how empty the void now is when a parent moves on to life in Heaven. I miss him even though we were not as close as many of the role models I have been so fortunate to observe throughout my life. Since my parents divorced when I was 9, there was so much I didn't understand. As I have matured, I realize now it is only within our own hearts to forgive and move on.
I have been fortunate in Dad's passing, to re-kindle relationships with the Elrod side of the family, and that is really sweet. I hope to visit them in the near future in Michigan and Middle Tennessee.
As 2011 slides inito Spring, our children are now 15 and 12, and we are in the midst of the teen and tween years. They are both good students and are good children. I pray they continue to be easy on their old parents. Our son just obtained his learner permit but isn;t too excited about driving yet.
I took on set design and construction for the middle school the children attend(ed), 3 years ago. It is srtessful this time each year, but extremely rewarding. Just seeing their faces and hearing their comments when they see the finished product is worth a million.
I've surpassed highway speed in years and time begins to move towards warp speed. And, there is so much I still want to accomplish, I pray that sound mind and mobility continue to be on my side.
Until the next update....
I always wanted to be a astronaut when I grew up. My family and friends thought that was a pipe dream idea. As it turns out, they were right.
Play golf, watch a good movie, go hiking and commune with nature, work around the house, work on the old car like Tim The Tool Man.
