Derek's Story
Hello;
The low-down and dirty; I, regrettably, was kicked out of Oroville High School for attendance (truancy) reasons, but I remained a part of the high school up til' ’89; where I spend a great deal of time at home, and after hours, studying with Roger Townsand from ’87 to ’89 working on computer technology and business studies, before I moved to Los Angeles. However, and sincerely, and most regrettably, I did not earn my high school diploma from Oroville High, as much as I had wished for and would have liked.
I, however, have always had a close personal connection to the Oroville High students and to the school well past ’85; my expected graduation year. And despite not graduating from Oroville High, And despite many of my former friends moving on to develop their own families, I still have many great memories of old friends who attended Oroville HS from '82 to ’85; though, some before and a few others beyond.
As for career and education, you can easily look me up on LinkedIn, and there you can view my profile. ; ) I will say, I spent time working in both private and corporate fields through the mid-90s and mid-2000s; including, venturing into the music instrument trade and becoming a member & trade show exhibitor/attendee of NAMM -- mostly from being a part of the music import and wholesale market. In additional, I provided marketing and sales advisory services to a local company here in Los Angeles while working as an independent agent; additionally, I worked as a contract intermediary for marketing, sales, and client relations.

puts up patiently with most of my eccentricities -- thank goodness; because, I don't believe anyone else could, or would. We have also been together since 1993; where she was just finish her 'Gen-Ed' from Jr. College. To date, though, we still do not have any kids of our own; we have both resigned early in our relationship to just focus on education and careers rather than building a family, but family is very important to both of us and to our extended families. However, we have given into some additional thought lately about extending our family. . . by possibly getting a puppy and a new kitty. ; )
I just want to say, there were so many kids I grew up with in elementary school through HS in Oroville; from the first grade, starting from Bird St. Elementary School, then to Wyandotte elementary school, then several years away from Oroville traveling with my mothers, than back to Oroville, where I began a short 6th grade term enrollment at Marshall Elementary School, then to Sierra Elementary School. Them to Nelson Avenue Jr. High School, and finally to Oroville High School. Despite many decades of lost friendships made form all of those schools, I still think back fondly of all the friendships I had all those years back... so many of them I hope ended up with great families of their own.
By the way, after living here in Los Angeles for so many years; nearly three decades now, LA is not the greatest place to raise a child… trust me on this one – at least from where we came from; Oroville is still my home town, and one I still believe is a great place to raise a child, and to retire peacefully – oh yeah, despite any Oroville Dam flooding that may occurred. ; )
Cheers,
Derek
