Derek's Story
Dr. Morris graduated from University High School in 1980. During his journey at Uni, he played B, JV, and varsity basketball for the "Warriors." Was an undisciplined athlete and an average student with a 3.00 GPA. Next, he briefly attended California State University Northridge.
While at CSUN, he majored in business but did not complete the work due to a lack of focus or was it a "Calling," for "the Few, the Proud." Subsequently, a United States Marine Corps Recruiter happened upon his way.
He Joined the Marine Corps in 1981 and was honorably discharged in 2003. During the journey, he was primarily in Marine Corps Special Operations to include Force Recon as an airborne, HALO/HAHO, military freefall jumpmaster, SCUBA/UBA, dive supervisor, sniper, communications, and direct action/CQB operative, as well as a Drill Instructor, Team Leader, Platoon Leader, and Operations Chief. Currently employed by the Naval Criminal Investigative Service (NCIS). Participates in sensitive national and global programs and projects. LL Cool J's character attempts to imitate and replicate the real deal. The goals are ambitious and the people and work is great.
Leading a good life. Enjoys maintaining physical fitness, long walks to cherish and reflect, marksmanship, playing chess, dressing for success, R&B, reading, writing, listening, leadership, followership, and team work.
Earned a Doctorate of Philosophy in Organization and Management specializing in Leadership from Capella University School of Business and Technology. Dissertation entitled Team leadership: A study of collaborative efficacy perceptions affecting team success in Marine Corps Special Operations.
Married to the former Miss Susan Zimmerman of Williamsport, PA. They have one son, Tony. They reside in Vista, CA.
