Derrick's Story
In HS, I was extremely shy, and also extremely unhappy. After HS, I went to the Colorado School of Mines. I graduated, but couldn't see wasting my life in science or in a job. I became a beekeeper, and also read and thought and read and thought and read and thought. I spent my 20s figuring out who I was and what I wanted to do.
Eventually I got an MFA in writing. Now I'm a writer. I've got 15 or so books and three CDs out. I give talks all over the country. I'm an environmental activ...Expand for more
ist, and have been for decades. My work (and my life) is about stopping this culture from killing the planet. I've also written extensively about stopping men's violence against women, stopping racism, stopping corporations from (further) destroying democracy, and so on. The common factor is stopping exploitation.
My idea of a good time is working with other people as passionate about these issues as I am. It's a great life, and I'm very happy.
