Desiree's Story

Life Oh my ; where do i begin....i'll share a bit with you for now, then update it later. My mother divorced my father when I was 13. I was the eldest out of 4 children. We lived comfortably well in Houston,Tx. ,but things changed fast after the divorce. We moved back to Chgo.in a 4rm., 2 bedroom apt.on Palmer and St. Louis, which was located behind a bar. the neighborhood also had street gangs ; something we obviously we were not accustomed to. My mom began to drink heavy and my brother got invovled with a neighborhood gang(the Imperial Gangsters). My 2 younger siblings were soon taken from us by my dad, leaving my mom more freedom to stay out late and ignoring me and my brother even more. I went to Darwin School and my brother went to Mosart. how that happened , i still don't know. I met many people and had met qiute a few friends; one stood out from the crowd. Her name was Denise Cantu . She was my best friend! I would hang out at the Logan Square Boys Club were I met even more people. This kept me out of trouble and gave me a positive attitude about myself. We need to have more organizations like that ,not only in the cities but in the burbs as well. I finally found my escape from the madness at home and married and had a child with a wonderful man at 18.He was a bit older than me and very finacially secure. I married for all the wrong reasons.I just wanted to get out of my house mostly because of the enviorment .My mother would always say ,"marry somebody with money" . She left out marry someone that you love.! I eventually got divorced soon after the birth of my daughter V.G.( i named her after my mother )Can u believe it ..i was married and divorced within the same yr. I was young and not stable so i granted her father full custody; something i would regret for the rest of my life. I haven't seen her in 20yrs. I soon had a great job and at 19 moved to the N. side on Sheridan Road . on my own. I had a wonderful life.I was independently and financially secure, had my own place and enjoyed life. I met someone and eventually married again . I was 23. I finally found happiness. We had a beautiful child , lived on Lake Shore Drive for a yr. then moved to beautiful Miami,Fl. ( he was Cuban). Soon after the move, he became a violent man. I left him taking my daughter this time, within that yr.. I moved back to chgo.with my mom until i got back on my feet. It didn't take long before I got a j...Expand for more
ob and got my own place. A few yrs. went by and my daughter was in school all day which then allowed me to go back to school. I was 29.I got my g.e.d and soon after pursued my Associates Degree in Applied Science and con't further in to the nursing program. I met a wonderful man and we've been in a committed relationship for 14yrs.We have lovely home, a vacation home (we got property in Tenn where we plan to have a log cabin home built)and a good education for my daughter who is now 21. I'm doing great but I'd like to contact old friends. There's still a bit of Hi School in me!!Please don't hesitate to contact me. We can do a lot of catching up or better yet, create new memories. Hope to hear from you soon. Sincerly, DESIREE (Desi) School I would like to find a group of special friends I used to hang out with in Darwin, to see how life has been treating them.My best friend was Denise Cantu and her sisters name is Debbie. There was Rey Colon,Ralph Roland,Mario("Stubby")Montoyer, brothers David and Rueben Gonzales, sisters Tatianna and Jackie,Victor("Pichon")Fernandez. There are many more ,too many to list! We also used to all hang out in the school yard at Darwin and Avondale just listening to music and sometimes dancing under the stars; There was also the Temple, the Eagle,The Logan Square theatre and The Logan Square Boys Club just to name a few.I'd like to really get in touch with Denise.I remember during my 8th grade year,I had came in from Texas and did not know anyone.I was relocated with my family to the city from the country; Iwas scared! It was Denise that came to me. There was also a time in high school.I could never forget. That's where I met my "First Love", Tony Ceja. I regret not finishing high school , but in my late twenties , i did return to school.got my G.E.D. then completed my Associates in Applied Sciences and went into the Nursing field. I have no complaints about my life. I've got a beautiful daughter who is now attending college and plans to open up her own business; I've been involved with the same wonderful man for 14 yrs. I have a great life and I hope the same for everyone. I intend to go back for my Bachelor's. It's never too late to fufill you're dreams! As my mother always told me "YOU ONLY LIVE ONCE...GRAB THE WORLD BY THE BALLS AND GET WHAT YOU CAN; YOU'RE A WOMEN IN AMERICA AND YOU CAN HAVE ANYTHING YOU WANT AS LONG AS YOU WORK HARD ENOUGH FOR IT!"I DID!!!
