Devin's Story
I GRADUATED FROM DODGE CITY SR. HIGH IN DODGE CITY, KS IN 1978. I THEN ATTENDED DODGE CITY COMM. COLLEGE ON SCHOLARSHIP FOR TWO YEARS.I then transferred to Southwestern Oklahoma State Univ. in Weatherford,Ok and majored in Pharmacy. I received a BS of Pharmacy degree in July 1984. After graduation I moved back to my home town of Enid, Ok where I went to work for Safeway. I got married in 1986 and moved to Tulsa in 1987 when Safeway shut down operations. In 1988 I moved to Gainesville GA where my husband , who was a disc jockey accepted a job. I went to work for Peoples (Big B) Pharmacy, then opened a new store for them as Pharmacy Mgr. and store Assistant Mgr. in Oakwood, GA. In 1989 I moved to Chattanooga, TN where my husband accepted a new job. I went to work for K-mart in Ft. Oglethorpe, GA as a staff pharmacist and eventually pharmacy manager. I had a son in 1990. I stayed with K-Mart for nine years. In 1998 I went to work for Wal-Mart as a pharmacy mgr. in Chattanooga. In 2000 I transferred with Wal-Mart to Avon, Colorado. In December 2001 I had a stroke. I was comepletely paralyzed on the left side and was told I would never get out of bed again, but thanks to God and a lot of prayer I am walking and talking again but not working because my left arm is still paralyze...Expand for more
d. After my stroke we moved back to Chattanooga,TN because we owned a home there. My husband filed for a divorce in 2006 because he said he was too young to take care of me the rest of his life. I moved back to Enid , OK to be near family and I am now able to live alone and survive on my own. In 2007 I moved into a retirement village as their first under-age resident. I did this because they have 24-hour emergency service if I fall or anything, (which my mom worried about all the time with me living alone.) It's great. I have maid service, home-health care, a gym,pool, golf course, two meals a day and all utilities included in my rent. I hope some day to return to work, but right now I live on disability and Social-Security along with my 2 CATS, a dog and a bird.,sadly my bird died dec 2010, he was 24 years old. in November 2010 i bought a house & I love having my own place. in May 2011, my son, Garrett moved to Enid & has moved in with me until he joins the Marines.it's different going from living alone to having someone move i Garrett has decided not to join the marines but to start saving and go back to college. He has completed one year in Rome, Ga. Hes probably going to go to Northwestern here in Enid. He's currently working at Golden Corral and Hampton Inn & Suites.
