Devin's Story

Life After finishing up at UCF, started working for AT&T in Orlando and was married to the love of my life Laryssa Lytwyn a few months later in 1990. We had our first child in 1996, Tristan, and a few months later I started working for Ross Perot, Sr. 9 months later, our son was diagnosed with Cornelia de Lange Syndrome. It was a rough first couple of years but he's been our little trooper and inspiration. We had our first trip to the UK in 1997 then in 1998 we moved to Nottingham, England with my company. We spent two wonderful years there in a small village outside of the city called East Bridgford. We moved back in 2000 to Boston due to more challenges with our son Tristan and later that year had our second son, Cullen. These past few years have challenged us to the core but we have come through it all still standing and still together. My wife and I will celebrate 13 years together in 2003 and can't wait for the next 13. While some say 13 is unlucky, we feel differently! School WOW! It's hard to believe that in 2003, it'll be 20 years since high school graduation! Time certainly does fly, but the memories have remained. Some of the best times growing up spent in the halls and classrooms of Spruce Creek Sr. High...and some of the best friends made there and some kept. "It was the best of times, it was the worst of times..." sums it up so well. So many fond memories from then, memories of love and love lost as well as that of friends and friends lost. We all said how we'd keep in touch after we went our seperate ways and did for a while. Time has faded some of those promises but as father time ticks away, the promise gets rekindled. Keeping in touch gets taken for granted but I think it's an integral part of our lives....maintaining a connection to our past. Not just for the sake of friendships, but to remember who we are and from where we came. For me, when I look back, I'm glad that I came from where I did....Spruce Creek Senior High. Go Hawks...Fly High, Dream Big! College They say "enjoy college...it'll be the best time of your life!". They (whoever they are) were right this time...it was the best time of ...Expand for more
my life. I met some great friends, had a lot of fun, learned a great deal...in class and out. However, I'm glad it's over...books can teach you only so much - it's the real world that's the most fun. Workplace I went to school for Accounting but started my career in IT...funny how things work out. For those who don't believe in a "master plan" created by someone greater than us, I for one believe in it. I started out for AT&T Information Technology in Orlando in 1989, moved into the consulting world with Information Builders in 1996 for a year and then by accident, luck, chance or something else, ended up going to work for Ross Perot Sr. with Perot Systems at the end of 1996. I started with Perot in Orlando then moved to England where I also had the opportunity of working in Luxembourg and India as well as all over the UK - Nottingham, Leeds and London. From there moved back to the US to Boston still with Perot. I took a couple year hiatus from 2001 - 2003 before rejoining Perot. Oh yeah, the "master plan comment. You see, our first son was diagnosed with a rare genetic disorder shortly after I started working for Perot Systems. I say that I work for Ross Perot, Sr. because of what he did for my wife and I during the early part of our son's life. He heard about our son and his diagnosis and called me personally to offer his support and help in any way possible. We told him we were working with someone from Univ. of Cincinnatti Children's Hospital. He said that he would make his private plane available to us whenever we needed it to take Tristan to Ohio and that he would pay for all expenses while we were up there. He also setup a full home office so that I could be closer to Tristan during this time and paid for all of us to go to Stratford-upon-Avon, England for a medical conference on our son's diagnosis. All of this with only a brief phone conversation with me just once. Since then, we have kept in touch as he's kept tabs on Tristan. So was it an accident or dumb luck that I ended up at a job fair that took me to Perot Systems...you decide. Think what you will about Mr. Perot, but for me, he'll always have my loyalty.
