Dexter's Story

After 22 years I retired from the IBM Corporation in 1992. I Founded De Viz Enterprises in 1993. I am a business consultant who specializes in Marketing, Business Development, Government Relations and Economic Development, and am also a Political Consulant. I work with companies who have business with the government on the Local, State and Federal level. Client list include The County of Alameda, US Department of Commerce, National Institute of Standards and Technology, Manufacturing Extension Partnership, International Fire Resistant Systems, Siemens, PeopleSoft (now a part of Oracle), Andersen Consulting, SiPark, Signal Park, TeleParking Systems, National Sign and Signal, Oakland Maritime Industrial Compound, Kenworth Trucking, PCC Logisitcs. United Intermodal Service, Kair In-Home Social Services and many more. Success stories include: My work on bringing the Oakland Raiders back to Oakland. Overseeing the process for local businesses to get 40% of the work to expand the Coliseum. I headed up a project utilizing over 30 churches in Oakland and Berkeley to screen disadvantage candidates for permanent jobs with AT&T laying fiber optic lines. Over 300 of my candidates were hired by AT&T and I worked with labor (IBEW) to have them all admitted as union members. Worked to establish the East Bay School to Career Partnership Program, The Bay Area Multi Media Partnership, and also worked with the Greater Oakland International Trade Center to establish a World Trade Center in Oakland. I've also done logistical planning and content development for many economic development conferences, summits and forums, including the first annual East Bay International Trade Summit. The first annual East Bay Legislators Reception, Opporunities for contracting in Base Conversion, Regional Forum for the California Ecomonic Strategy Panel, and many othes. Current President of the Maritime Industrial Support Compount and heading up the development of approximately 35 acres on the Oakland Army Base. I managed a Mayoral Campaign in the City of Richmond, in 2006. My candidate did not win, but did obtain 28% of the vote. Published a Biography on my Mother titled "Shine on Me" in 2004. Recently signed a new publishing deal for the third edition. I'm a regional coordinator for Realizing the Dream (RTD) and in 2007 I brought Martin Luther King III to the City of Richmond and scripted the Richmond segment of RTD's documentary "Poverty in America." I'm a current member of the NAACP Richmond Chapter and am very involved in the poilitical process in Oakland, Richmond and the Port of Oakland. I serve on several Board's. I coach basketball for St. David School, and the YMCA in Richmond. I'm a member of St. John Missionary Baptist Church in Richmond. My office has been located in Downtown Oakland on Broadway since 1993. More importantly I am married to a charming and beautiful woman and we have two sons, Justin 14. and Miles 8. I was also a single parent and raised two children both of whom are adults in their 30's. Did I mention that I was a nightclub promoter for over 20 years?
